Guest guest
Hi there, I have a 2&1/2 year old who is still nursing and has been on the SCD diet since last January for gluten sensitivity/celiac. We have not made the progress I would have hoped as far as weight gain, sleeping through the night, troubles with constipation and regular BM's. We do seem to have mostly gotton rid of the yeast but her diet is still very limited (meat, fish, cooked fruit, no veggies but split pea soup cooked for hours, some cheese, yogurt, avocado, banana). We did just eliminate about a month ago some things that looked " legal " from the labels (organic applesauce and Sheldon's turkey sausage) and starting cooking just about everything from scratch. She gets food fatigue at times and just won't eat certain things. She is often scratching at her stomach. I have had to give her prunes to help with the constipation because she was bleeding with a BM. I just ordered some SCD enzymes to see if that would help her. It wasn't my plan to still nurse this long, but sometimes she won't eat and is just begging to nurse. I have let her continue because I figure it is easy to digest and is gentle on her stomach. But yesterday I began to wonder about the lactose in breast milk? Would that screw up your digestion if you have a damaged gut? Did Elaine ever write about this or address it in her research? Thanks, toddler-gluten sensitive/celiad SCD since Jan 2009

If you are not, then " stuff " from what you are eating can get into your breast milk and can affect her. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Yes, I am, because I am also gluten sensitive/celiac. I think the only thing I am eating right now that I am not 100% sure on is an occasional canned olive (that is label legal) and canned butternut squash (that is organic and I had called the company about, I believe last winter). I am just assuming that even though breastmilk is 7% lactose it will be okay, but am looking for anything else I can try. (But we did only go " fanatical " about a month ago---before that we had a few items that looked SCD okay by the labels--but I hadn't checked.) She has only gained maybe 3 pounds since last January. I just started the SCD enzymes last night...maybe that will be the extra push she needs? Thanks, & toddler, gluten sensitive/celiac SCD since end of January. > >It wasn't my plan to still nurse this long, but > >sometimes she won't eat and is just begging to > >nurse.
