I keep reading conflicting ideas on this - I thought you were supposed to introduce small amounts of yogurt somewhat early on after the intro diet to build up the good bacteria but I just read in a couple of places online that you should wait 2-3 months? I'm confused! I'm using SCD to treat IBS-D

Unless you've been dairy/casein free for a while - like a lot of ASD kids, then you should wait 2-3 months. Mara

Keep in mind that if you are reading this about yogurt on the Pecanbread

website, that Pecanbread is geared towards autistic children, many of

whom have been casein-free for some time. As a consequence, it is not a

good idea to remove the starches a lot of these kids have eaten as their

sole source of food, which causes major die-off AND give them a food they

may not have tolerated before there has been some gut healing taking

place.

SCD yogurt is included on the intro diet, unless you have had

demonstrated sensitivity to casein.

It was the austinscdfriends website under "common mistakes" - I think that's more of a digestive site rather than ASD - that's what confused me

7. Introducing homemade yogurt too soon.

Yogurt should be introduced after a couple of months, starting with small amounts and gradually increasing based on tolerance.

Marla,

I'm sorry, but that is taken from Pecanbread... if you read BTVC, the

yogurt is included in the intro diet.

There ARE people who can't handle the die-off from quitting starch and

sugar, plus the probiotics, and in that sense, delaying the start of the

yogurt is reasonable.

I could also see people who are panicked over making yogurt in addition

to all the other cooking wanting to delay yogurt making for a few

months.

Neither is part of the SCD protocol.
