Gracies reflux is getting really bad, again. She is currently on Prevacid, and takes half of the adult dose. I do know, however, that she does need to go back up to the adult dose again. I do not like giving her such high doses of medications, since she is only 2 years old. She does not have a nissen, and I really do not want to go that route with her. My question is, has anyone found anything better than the Prevacid? She has tried many types of reflux meds. but none have been successful. I'm just hoping someone may have a suggestion of something we have not tried yet. Thanks in advance.

,

is on pepcid and has been for over two yrs. It has really

helped her. She started off on quite a high dose. They docs took her

off of it for a while( why do they mess with things that work?) and

she started to have reflux again (with vomiting). We put her back on

and have been able to cut the dose in half for maintanence.

Two of my sons used Bethanechol in addition to either Zantac or Prevacid. My 11 year old was on Bethanechol and Zantac from 6 weeks until 18 months when he outgrew his reflux. Lucas is 8 yrs old and suspected mito. He was on Prilosec and Bethanachol for a time and then Prevacid and Bethanachol. Currently he is on Prevacid and Mestinon. Lucas has more of a motility issue however thus the use of Mestinon. He does not have a fundo and is J-tube fed. He also has a G-button which we are currently venting almost 20 hours a day and still he has gagging and vomiting issues at times. Lucas was orally fed with mild reflux until 4 years of age. He has had normal and abnormal gastric emptying studies also. HTH, Loriann

Hi , Ditto everything Kass said. My doctor prescribed reglan, a motility drug, to use in combination with the prevacid. I think it is helping and he experiences no side effects. Only catch is you have to give it before every meal which I am horrendous at remembering.

Good luck, Lori and (almost 5, complexes I and IV)

Re: reflux medications

Hi :-) Not sure if this might apply or not, but when we "hit the wall" meds-wise in treating Abby's reflux it was discovered that she has delayed motility and so while the reflux meds could reduce the acid produced, she was doomed to continue refluxing up to her mouth because the stomach was not emptying fast enough. We had tried pretty much all the reflux meds, all at the highest doses felt safe, and never did have full control because of the additional issues of motility. Now that we are treating the motility issues in addition to the reflux, we're seeing some improvement. Hope this helps. -- BIG hugs, Kass, proud mom to Chance(10-Mito), Madison(7-Mito), and Abby(6-Mito) Updates (http://www.caringbridge.org/tx/mitowhat/) "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away" Unknown albregra@... wrote: Gracies reflux is getting really bad, again. Hello

We've been there too. Protonix works the best of all the enteral meds we've

tried, but we just found out a few months ago that hasn'tresponded

to the meds because she didn't absorb them through her gut. We actually

found that out with the phenobarb first, then switched most of her meds to

IV. Now she gets tagamet IV four times a day and that's all she needs to

keep her from having GI bleeding or discomfort from reflux. Motility is

another story. Have you had Gracie's motility checked? Sorry, I can't

remember Gracie's story. How old is she? Does she eat orally? Good luck.

Heidi, 's Mom, 21 months, G tube for venting, J tube for feeds,

hickman for meds and fluids, currently off TPN, yay!
