Guest guest
I'm not Carol, but I can answer this part of your question. I've been on SCD for almost six years, feeling "healed" with my chronic digestive symptoms under good management (I have functional digestive disorders so management is all I can hope for) since year 3. Yet I was diagnosed with a B12 deficiency at the end of my 3rd year on SCD, and oral supplements didn't do a thing to improve my levels. I've had to give myself an injection once a month ever since, and thanks to these regular injections I have been able to keep my levels at the low end of normal (my levels were far below normal at first), enough so that my body works better and I don't fall over as often. I've done some reading on this. Some of us have digestive systems or bodies that can't absorb B12, for a variety of reasons. It also becomes an issue with the elderly. By the way, I've become deficient in other minerals also, so have to supplement. Apparently my body just doesn't work the same as it used to [sigh]. I suspect this is true of a lot of us. Even though SCD can work miracles, there are some things it can't fix. Kim M.
