Guest guest
I just received the test kit for the Genova labs comprehensive stool test. In the instructions, it says to avoid using/eating a variety of things, one of which is probiotics. Obviously, I want the test to be able to find any bad bugs that are present, but I'm nervous about not eating my yogurt (or supplementing) for several days. Has anyone else had this test done and, if so, did you stop eating yogurt and/or taking probiotic supplements? As a reminder, I have done really well on SCD but ever since receiving IV antibiotics earlier this year, have struggled with a slight amount of bleeding that dietary changes don't seem to stop. My stools are perfect and I have no cramping, bloating, or pain. I've been using Vitamin E enemas for the past 2 weeks and the bleeding completely stopped after 4 days on the enemas. In a way, I'm concerned that the success of the Vitamin E enemas might also mask whatever bug was causing the bleeding ... so I'm curious to see if the bleeding returns in the next couple of days. I'm stopping the enemas as well per the Genova instructions (no suppositories, enemas, or probiotics). Any input from others who have done this test would be appreciated. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I just received my test kit today, too for the Genova stool test. I have some of the same questions, e.g., do I need to stop saurkraut? Did yours say no enemas? Mine mentioned barium enemas, but I didn't see regular enemas on there. I don't know what to do honestly. My bowels will not move without enemas or suppositories (yet, hoping for improvement one day) so I'm lost as to how to get the stool out of me for the test. Does anyone know if I could use a laxative (thinking casgara sagrada)? I know that it's illegal, but I just want to get the test done with, and after 3 days of no enemas or suppositories, I will be one hurting gal. I wonder if Natural Calm magnesium is OK to take before the test? I hope that yours goes well, Kathy and I'm anxious to see if anyone has experience with this, too. Guest guest
Hi Christy, > > Did yours say no enemas? Mine mentioned barium enemas, but I didn't see regular enemas on there. > It doesn't say enemas in general, but I've been using the Vitamin E enemas and they stopped the bleeding I had, so I know they're affecting the balance in my colon (in a good way). In your case, if you're using enemas or suppositories to cause a bowel movement, that might be different. I think they are generally trying to ensure that you don't use something that upsets the balance of the gut flora from the way it is " normally " (i.e., the condition that's causing the UC or Crohn's or wahtever). Have you been on SCD long? I know I used to have trouble with constipation, but never became reliant on laxatives or anything. SCD has definitely made me SUPER regular (could probably set my clock by it). Hopefully the diet will help your system regulate itself! Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Thanks for the info! I've been doing the diet for 2 months now. I pray for improvement but I know that it takes time. I'm still extremely constipated.
