For you post-oppers: when you have the normal aches/pains of life

(sinus headache, pulled muscle, a respiratory infection, etc) do you

have to go thru a trial-and-error process with over the counter

medications to see which ones you can tolerate, and at what dosage?

I know NSAIDS are out, but how do you know what and how much to take

of anything?

Thanks,

Debbie in Philly

I asked my surgeon ( Dr. Elariny) about this....I took vioxx daily before surgery....it was the ONLY thing that worked to prevent my daily headaches.

He told me I could not take it after....now I am in daily pain since Tylenol doesn't do squat for me... :-(

You can take the II inhibitors NSAIDs (Vioxx and Celebrex) for such

things-- if your insurance will pay since they are more expensive. I take

Tylenol rarely. Can't take aspirin or NSAIDs of any kind.

Since surgery and my 7-+lb weight loss, the aches and pains are rare in

comparison to pre op.

Dear Bobbi-Jo:

I have taken Vioxx and Celebrex both for a bad hip and knees and it has never bothered me at all and I have not had any side effect, I asked Dr. A about them before I let my ortho. prescribe them and he said they were fine. I have found that some NSAIDs make me sick to my stomach but Vioxx or Celebrex does not, he did try to get me to take one pill (sorry I don't remember the name) but it was enteric coated so the NSAIDs wouldn't upset my stomach and then was released slowly into the intestines and did not seem to understand that the 5 hours he said it would take to absorb the meds it would already be out of my system. (Sigh) It is hard sometimes to get some doctors to actually listen when you talk.

Anyway I would ask your doctor again why he does not like the Vioxx and at least ask him if you can try it.

Huggles,

Tiger
