Guest guest
My stomach used to do this a lot the first 3-4 months of SCD. Now, a year into the diet, it never happens anymore. So, to answer your question, I don't believe it's normal. My gut health in general was not normal back then, and gurgling was a part of it. I hope that you all of you 'gurglers' will get rid of this issue as I have been able to. I suspect that as healing progresses, this will go away. Here are some useful tips for gurgling: Do not drink fluids with meals if possible. Don't chug down large amounts of fluids all at once. Sip small amounts of liquids spaced over a day. Limit honey/high fructose fruits. These are all things that I found helped in my food journal from the early months of SCD. HTH,
Guest guest
Actually, a certain amount of gurgling in our digestive tract is normal. It is a sign of peristalsis, and not just in the stomach but anywhere along the intestinal tract. When my Sphincter of Oddi went into a spasm six years ago (eventually diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction), I had very little peristalsis -- I had plenty of doctors listening for bowel sounds and not hearing them and discussing their concern.... Granted most of the bowel sounds are inaudible to the "naked ear" so when you do hear gurgling it is a worry. And it can often be a warning sign. On the other hand, I didn't hear gurglings for three years after my diagnosis, although my doctors could when using their stethoscope. I am now glad to hear the occasional rumblings; it is a sign of digestive health for me, rewarding to hear after the struggles I've had to achieve symptom management. Some people have louder peristalsis than others. I've worked with several people who just had loud digestions but were healthy and had no digestive disorders. I think it's a matter of degree of the loudness of the gurglings, what part of the digestive tract the gurgling is coming from, how long it lasts, and whether it occurs along with other symptoms to indicate a negative reaction to something. In other words, I wouldn't worry too much, but just take it as a body reaction to consider along with other symptoms only if it seems to be overloud or prolonged. Kim M. I think I'm beginning to see more improvements but cautiously optimisitc... > > > My stomach used to do this a lot the first 3-4 months of SCD. Now, a year > into the diet, it never happens anymore.
