Patty I hear your frustration for sure as we are a family of 3 Mito kids plus myself, so that is 4 Mito people in one family, yet because I work as a teacher we do not qualify for any governmental help what so ever. I have been told if I file a legal separation from my hubby, Then I would qualify as a single mother and we could get all kinds of help. But like yourself I refuse to do that, I too have to be able to live with myself. And breaking up my family is not an option. With MDA for us if we see an MDA doctor there is no charge, however we do not have a knowledgeable MDA Doctor near us about Mito specifically and we are very Near Rick Boles, so they allow us to see Dr. Boles but still have the other MDA benefits as far as camp for the kids, and any other MDA services. If I were you I would call and talk to a different person. It sounds like maybe you may have gotten ahold of a person who does not have all the info correct. Maybe it is for where you are, but it is worth a second or third call to make sure. We participate in a lot of the family things MDA has to offer so the kids can spend time with other kids that deal with the same issues they deal with, chronic illness and all. I say keep up your moral standards though. You are doing the right thing even if a lot in the US don't. If everyone drops their moral values we will al be in a worst world of hurt for sure!
