A FEW WORDS (LOL) I RECEIVED FROM GLO YESTERDAY. I ASKED HER PERMISSION TO SEND ALONG PART OF HER LETTER. WE ALL WISH HER THE VERY BEST IN HER RECOVERY. AND TO YOU PRE-OPS THAT HAVE NOT HAD THE OPORTUNITY TO KNOW GLO, SHE WAS TO HAVE THE SURGERY 2 DAYS AFTER ME AND WHEN GLO WENT TO HER PRE-OP APPT THE DAY BEFORE HER SCHEDULED SURGERY DR REN DISCOVERED A LUMP ON HER THYROID. GLO HAD ASKED HER PCP SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS LUMP AND HE BLEW HER OFF. DR REN SENT HER TO GET THE LUMP BIOPSIED AND IT HAS TURNED OUT TO BE CANCER AND HAD SPREAD DOWN INTO HER CHEST CAVITY.

"The surgery and recovery have been a bit harder than what I was expecting but I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Dr. did an excellent job. Before surgery he was not very optimistic about keeping my vocal cords intact, but thank God I can still talk! And when he got in, the surgery was more extensive that he expected...it was only supposed to take 1 1/2- 2 hours and it took 4. He had to go down into my chest cavity, over to my shoulder, and under my chin, along with removing the thyroid, the tumors and lymph nodes, etc. Dave was worried at first. Then I had a reaction to the anesthesia and had severe nausea. Even though we told the nurses & residents about it I suffered, and I do mean suffered, for over 24 hours straight from it. I have never been that miserable in my life. Finally one of Dr. 's more brilliant residents gave me an anti nausea drug given to chemo patients (Zofran) and it worked like a dream...I was up and about within 15 minutes and begging to go home, lol! Every day now I see some improvement and that really encourages me. Next Fri we go back to the surgeon for the followup visit. They already have me scheduled for the radioactive iodine therapy in Aug. I am not really looking forward to that...there's a lot involved with it. But I know the Lord got me through this, He will see me through whatever else I have to go through. I know God's Word tells us He doesn't allow us to bear any more than we are able, but sometimes I wished I was as confident as the Lord is in my carrying power, LOL! My pcp wants me to recover from the surgery before we investigate the mass on my kidney. As far as I know I still have the kidney stones too but they have not been bothering me. Maybe I already passed the one in the uretha. , you don't know how much it has meant to me to know you and Bob have been praying for me and Dave. And thanks too for sending along the good wishes from folks on the ds list. Please let everyone know how much I appreciate their prayers and good wishes. I will always remember my ds buddies, perfect strangers at first, who went out of their way to brighten my day. God has put some beautiful people in our lives, this has been a bittersweet time for us...but definitely more sweet than bitter. This cancer has changed my life in good ways also. It's like my senses are heightened. Like how I notice, really notice, how it feels when the wind blows against my cheek outdoors. How I feel more forgiving toward people who do me wrong. I think I feel more free to be myself than in any other time in my life. Of course this is not the path I would have chosen to have all these things, but at least it's not all bad. "
