Hi Cat,

I am sorry that your cold has you feeling so miserable. Unfortunately those are things you are going to have to deal with. Like your family being so insensitive to the fact that you are not able to eat a certain type of food especially after surgery. I remember after surgery I was sitting on the couch so full of self pity and my husband sat down and started eating some chips. I felt so resentful. I made the comment during a support group meeting in SSF Kaiser and Gitty said that there is no reason why I should expect them to change the way that they eat just because I had surgery. Those are things that we have to learn to deal with. I can not control what others around me eat all I can do is be responsible for what I eat. There is a lot of self talk we have to do at times to get us through moments like that. Just remember that you are trying to achieve a goal and that is better health. While eating what ever it is will give you comfort for the moment in the end it will sabotage your efforts of attaining your goal. It is at those time you really have to analyze what is the better choice for you.

As for when I get sick I still make some homemade chicken soup and eat a little of the broth but mostly the chicken. I still cook a lot of things that I did before surgery I just modified them so that they fit my eating habits now.

.... I have a cold, I'm pissed off, I can't have ANY of the things I'd

normally have when I am sick (pine-orange-banana juice, a Coldbuster

from Jamba Juice, chicken noodle soup), I'm sick of Boca burgers and

tuna fish, my parents are going to eat fish and chips in front of me,

and I hate the world right now. And I haven't even had surgery yet (13

more lbs to lose).

What the hell do y'all eat/ drink when you are sick???

While it's true that we shouldn't EXPECT people to change the way

they are eating just because we had WLS, it still is nice when they

do accomodate us.

I guess I'm just extremely lucky that my dear hubby cares so much

that (especially at first) he tries to avoid eating stuff he knows I

can't have in front of me. He also helps me avoid temptation by

putting the cookies and snack food I shouldn't eat up on a high

shelf in the kitchen. (He knows I hate climbing up high, and it's

enough of a deterent)
