Guest guest
all of those things check out, relax. is four and a half and weighs 55.5 lbs. She is off of the charts. Sheis tall for her age and no one knows why she is sooo big. It seems to me that most mito kids are very small, but there is a hndful of them that are just bigger than average. is 4 and wearing size 14 shirts becasue her belly is so big. We have had every test known to mankind and found nothing. She eats very little and still gains weight. Hey this all sounds very familiar... However, I think being overwieght is very common in the mito world. I remember when we went to the MDA clinic, the doctor told me there was NO WAY he could have mito b/c he was 'too fat'! Which of course, I have since found out was not true...not to mention the MDA brochure on Mito has the picture of a family of four and says 'three of these have mito' and they were all overwieght! I pointed that out but he was not amused! anyway, there are many kids with this problem on the list... When died, he was almost seven...he was tall...4.5ft tall and weighed a whopping 115 pounds even when he stopped eating a lot. He was just about in adult small clothes and wore very big shoes! It must have something to do with the energy metabolism it takes to properly get rid of calories or something. Although was risperidal for a good while and even when Gaige was on it, they both gained wieght but I think a lot of it has to do with mito too! deb...mom to three great adopted kids... (07.04.96-05.26.03) with Mitochondrial Disease, Gaige age 5 with High Functioning Autism & dysfluency and Bliss age 3 with very very mild Cerebral Palsy. www.LifeofLoveProject.orgwww.HeartLiftersGallery.com
