We have good and bad days in the recovery period. the constipation and gas are starting again... Can't say that I had constipation; quite the contrary. But, how about some fiber from, say, Citrucel? FiberCon tablets are probably too much to swallow now. You will need plenty of fluids, too. For gas, a simethicone product like Gas-X or Phazyme might help. Beano seems to help some people, too--two tablets or five drops (if you use the convenient liquid) at the beginning of a " risky " meal. Also, try to eat some yoghurt. And, I seemed to get quite a bit of help form Acidophilus cultures, that is four dessicated bacteria in a capsule. Dosage is three capsules per day at first, then tapering to one/day. This is a replacement for some of the good bacteria in your gut. Without them, other bacteria just turn the undigested food to mean gas. You can get Acidophilus in a health food store or specialty food store like Fresh Fields/Whole Foods or Trader Joes. If all else fails, charcoal tablets also give some relief. my kitchen looks like a pharmacy and to make Yeah, mine, too. Felt like bruised ribs. Moved to the muscle tissue. I was concerned. Luckily, I had a surgeon appointment, and the doc assured me that it was nothing to worry about. The pain is subsiding. ...Help ...please share thanks for listening post op 10 days friday Remember the old song, " It only hurts for a little while...That's what they tell me...That's what they say. Guest guest
, I think it is normal to feel pretty bad at such an early stage. I don't get the gas pains (although I got them horribly while in the hospital), but definitely went through horrible periods of nausea, weakness, dizziness and just plain felt awful after surgery. About the scale - stay off! The scale is not your friend at this point. There isn't an amount of pounds lost that can make that early preop period seem worth it! How are you eating and drinking? Are you able to walk? Walking might help with the gas pains. I have been dealing with constipation since I had surgery (eight weeks ago). When I talked to my surgeon about it he laughed and said " that won't last " . I've tried walking more, tried to get more fluids, ate a prune, tried some Kashi Go Lean cereal (has both protein and fiber), tried drinking milk (ever hear of anyone praying for a late case of lactose intolerance?), tried adding some fat to my diet, and tried eating more. Nothing seems to help consistently, but a combination of several of these seems to help a bit. Sorry I don't have great answers for that problem. Just know that it does get better. I really struggled postoperatively. I felt truly awful. But each week seemed to bring a bit of improvement, until about six weeks, when I really felt I turned a corner and started to feel like myself again. Before surgery, I had noticed that people had a tendency to feel awful and question their decision to have surgery during those early postop days, so I told myself I wouldn't judge until I had passed that point. I think the experience of the majority of people is that after 6-8 weeks, it becomes " worth it " . Please don't judge yet. What you feel now is not what you will feel forever. Things will get better. Take care, Dawna
Guest guest
Ellen(Pam), The first news is wonderful!! I'm sorry about the hysterectomy, however, being able to do it when you do your panni/TT at the same time at least saves you having two different surgeries. *hugs* Anita > I have good news aND BAD NEWS. Guest guest
Ellen, I had my hysterectomy 9 years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done. I had a fibroid that was growing when it should have been shrinking; it was wreaking havoc with my body and mind (I never knew if I'd go 2 months without my period or if I'd start hemorrhaging (sp?)uncontrollably. My incision was what was then called a bikini cut and everything went smoothly with recovery except my hospital stay was lengthened by two days by a very low-grade fever (nothing with nothing). It did wonders for my **sex life** SPONTANEITY RULES. Good luck to you; may you have as easy a time with it as I did. Marcia > Hi everyone > > > I have good news aND BAD NEWS. First the good. Guest guest
Is that a symptom of a fibroid? I have always had my periods pretty regular but 3 months ago i missed one and the last couple have been really really heavy with lots of little clots of blood (sorry so graphic). I wondered if it could be a fibroid but since I'd already began one path decided to finish this and then go to that next...LOL Can only handle one thing at a time...LOL AJ Marty Kanter shadow44@...> wrote: >Ellen, >I had my hysterectomy 9 years ago and it was one of the best things I've >ever done.
