Guest guest
yep, i had that when my dr left me on the atd's for way too long, and it made me hypothyroid. I never enjoyed hypohell, and i think you need to have labs done soon. They need to be sure to do FT3 and FT4 instead of just T3 and T4. the symptoms your describing to me went along with hypothyroid. Have you had any testing done since the RAI? And if so, what were the labs #'s along with the values. Sandy ~Houston Back pain Hello Everyone, Just a question for everyone who is post RAI. I had RAI in the end of August, and to this point the only thing that has bothered me is being tired all the time. Now I have severe lower back pain. I haven't done anything to hurt my back. The only heavy lifting I do is day to day stuff. Laundry, toys, picking up my two year old, all basic stuff that should not have me in this much pain. I can't lift my little guy up now unless I am sitting. Has anyone had this happen to them? I hate it!!!!!!!!! Anything to help would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Laurie, I'm not post-RAI, but back problems, I know well. While it could of course be a direct result of the changes in your body from the radiation, the treatment of back difficulties is what I'll address. Namely, that a good, knowledgeable acupuncturist can alleviate your pain and help you to heal. I have had back problems for 30 years now, and I've tried everything short of surgery. The ONLY thing that really is effective long-term for me is acupuncture. And, it works quickly. I also see a chiropractor, but if I had to choose on of the two, I'd stick with the acupuncture for sure. Hope this helps, Terry > > Reply-To: graves_support > Date: Mon, 29 Sep 2003 02:29:48 -0000 > To: graves_support > Subject: Back pain > > Hello Everyone, > Just a question for everyone who is post RAI. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, My name is Luci and I'm unfortunaltly a big lurker, mostly because I feel too tired to ask question or I dont feel like I have anything to say. But your lower back complaints sparked my interest. I too have severe lower back pains with pains running down the back of my legs to my calf, the front of my legs as well as inner thigh,as well as pain when sitting and standing. Lots of pain I know..I did hurt myself at work, over 2 months ago, and just had an mri on fri ,which has not been read by a DR yet. UmmI guess I am just sympathiising with you. I am due for more labs this week. Currently I'm on 50mg ptu a day. I was wondering if possably beeing too hyPo is exacerbating anything? Origannally I thought I just pulled a muscle wicked bad, but the other pains are pretty intense and lasting a long time. I was put back on light duty,(against my wishes)and without an mri at the time. I will see a spinal DR on fri who will read the mri and I'll know whats going on then I guess. Right now driving is excrusiating (and I start work tomorrow ughhhhh)sitting hurts so I'm ansty and up and down alot. Laurie have you been to A Dr yet? I hope you'll concider seeing someone incase you pinched a nerve or something. Hope you feel better soon. Someone who knows your pain...... Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I don't remember you posting on the list before, but I might have missed you since I have had alot of health problems with my Mito. I am sorry you have Mito. And I know what severe back pain feels like, I have been in your shoes more that I wish to remember. I would suggest that you call your PCP or pain management doctor on Monday and ask for something else that will help your back pain. As far as getting a new bed, I am not quite sure what you are asking. Is it that you don't have the finances to buy a new bed? If that is the case, some stores have store credit that you can apply for and some of them offer 0% interest for a certain amount of time. This way you can make payments on the bed. You will get the bed immediately but will have monthly payments. I am in the process of looking at new beds myself. Ours isn't actually old but I need more support. Oh yeah, I just had a thought. What about those Air Beds? Would that help you? I know of a few people who use them and they love them. They even have one now that is raised, it is as high as a regular bed. Maybe you can check them out. Good Luck and I hope you feel better soon. You can talk to lost of people on this list, and you can ask any questions you need. Don't be embarrassed, we have heard it all!! Hugs, Ann-Marie back pain HI, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! LASTNIGHT I WAS UP ALL NIGHT WALKING THE FLOORS WITH CHONRIC BACK PAIN. AND IT IS STILL HERE TONIGHT.THIS IS SOMETHING NEW FOR ME. I HAVE HAD SOME BACK PAIN, BUT NOTHING LIKE THIS. MY PAIN MEDS. WOULD NOT EVEN HELP ME LAST NIGHT. ALSO DO YOU KNOW OF ANY ADULTS IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN WITH THIS MITO ALSO. I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO TALK TO SOMEONE CLOSE BY. ALSO I NEED INFO ON A WAY TO GET A DIFFERENT BED. THE ONE I HAVE KNOW IS ALL BROKE DOWN AND WE SLEEP ON THE FLOOR. IF ANYONE HAS RESOUCES AS TO HOW I COULD GET A BED PLEASE LET ME KNOW. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING. Guest guest
Maybe the MDA.org would help with the bed and they also might have a list of people with Mito. in your area. Guest guest
Kathy Those with mito often have muscle weakness which can lead to back pain. It really needs to be addressed by a doctor. laurie > HI, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! > LASTNIGHT I WAS UP ALL NIGHT WALKING THE FLOORS WITH CHONRIC BACK > PAIN. Guest guest
Kathy, I am in Wisconsin, not Michigan but thru my couponing groups learned about a yahoo webgroup called freecycle. There are local yahoo freecycle groups set up for different regions or cities. For instance we have one called calumetcounty freecycle, there is also one green bay freecycle. You could find one for your local area by going to freecycle.org There people give away things they no longer need. You can also ask for things you need, although most lists limit it to once per month. Alot of people ask for beds, sofa's, chairs. Generally there is also a companion list for the same area where people buy and sell things. When my husbands pickup broke down in January I posted we needed a reliable cheap car and someone contacted us with a van for $500. It is a 1990 with alot of highway miles and had been repainted. Almost new tires and brakes, they just purchased a new vehicle. You could post you are looking to purchase a bed for a reasonable price. Janet Sample back pain HI, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Janet Great idea! I get rid of stuff through freecycle all the time. laurie > Kathy, > > I am in Wisconsin, not Michigan but thru my couponing groups learned about > a yahoo webgroup called freecycle. Guest guest
IMHO, if you're walking, the pain isn't that bad. I was always on the floor writhing in pain and screaming when my back pain was bad (that's when my husband decided to take me to the ER, where they gave me narcotic shots which didn't help with the pain, but made me not care about being in pain). Hope you feel better soon! Take care, RH > > HI, EVERYONE!!!!!!!!! > LASTNIGHT I WAS UP ALL NIGHT WALKING THE FLOORS WITH CHONRIC BACK > PAIN. Guest guest
Please keep in mind that pain is a VERY subjective experience. As members of this list we are here to support one another. Please do not discount another's experience just because it was different from yours or not as severe. Mito effects us each individually. It is really important to keep this in mind so that all feel welcomed and safe to post here. Kristie (a moderator who reads all posts but is usually on the sidelines pretty quiet. Guest guest
Just a note to let you all know that I probably won't be in the chat room Thursday night I have an appointment tomorrow with the pain management doctor, one that I called for and asked for help, since the evil test I had done a few weeks ago, I've been in more pain than I could have imagined. My back hurts more than I am actually able to stand.. I have Lortab, that I can take 2 a day, but its not even touching the pain.. it is constant and unrelentless, I'm up all night, I can't sit down, I can't stand up, I can't lay down.. I'm just about at the end of my rope. I know that my siatic nerve is involved on the R, but this has managed to over power both legs and hips. Please those of you that will, keep me in your prayers, and I certainly will appreciate it. Thanks, and love to all,
