Guest guest
Our pediatrician will usually prescribe Nystatin for a bad rash. I know there are more, better, prescription but I can't remember the names. We also have been told to use Aquaphor on her bum, it really helps. I guess it keeps the moisture off the skin. Best wishes.
Guest guest
Hi all. Becca has had diarrhea since Tuesday. I thought it was just the long holiday weekend catching up to her, and too much fruit, so I sent her to school Tues and Weds. I got a call from the school nurse at about 10:30am yesterday, the poo's were bad. So, I left work, picked her up and she spent the rest of the day, cleaning out her system. By 2pm, her bum was really sore and red, so I put some Mylanta on it. Usually, that helps right away. By 4pm, it was worse, so I called our " hero " Dr. ' office and asked what do I do now? Dr. A and the nurse put their heads together and couldn't come up with anything, except to tell me to take her to the ER, so a Doc could check to make sure it wasn't yeast, on top of the acidic bum. So, off to Albany Med's ER. They were great, got us right in, and we were out the door in just over 2hours. With NOTHING The attending said to use Desitin. I told him Desitin hasn't worked in 8yrs, why would it work now? Poor Becca Boo, her bum and muffin area are just beet red and she just howls with pain and KICKS, too! I'm being as gentle as I can be, but I've got to clean the area, water, wipes, anything touching her gets her going. Last night, I used some Vitamin E on it, and it's about the same. Mylanta has worked right along for years, what else can I use that will give her some relief? Becca has a history of what we call " protein dumps " . If she gets too much protein in her diet, she gets lethargic, crabby, pale and then she poop's out a stinker of vile, odd colored, pasty waste that will ulcerate her bum, and we usually pour some Mylanta on it and it cools it off and heals it right away. Becca is still having diarrhea, about every 2hrs, not drinking real well, not really eating, either, but is cheery and busy watching Barney and the Wiggles. I'm waiting to get a call from the Nurse at Dr. ' office to see if they want us to come in. I feel like a pain in the a** going to them for what *should* be simple diarrhea, but I hate the thought of her system's processes being compromised from a virus. Ok, I think I'm done with my rant. Thanks for reading this far, if you made it all the way through, and I appreciate any advice you can give! Guest guest
Eileen, Probiotics (strains of natural gut bacteria) are good for any kind of diarrhea. They will help recolonate her gut and hopefully help the diarrhea. Look for a brand with Acidophilus in it, they can be found just about anywhere that sells supplements and should be kept refridgerated. Also, starchy foods are good for binding things up; rice, any whole grain product, potatoes, etc. HTH e, CHelsea's mom(nonspecific mito)
Guest guest
Hi Eileen, have I talked to you on the phone? We also see Dr. , we live in Malta. My only idea for the diaper rash is to try corn starch. Sheldon also gets really bad diaper rashes, usually from fruit like apples and I never know what to do. I recently have tried corn starch and it seems to work sometimes. Can't help much with the diarrhea either, Sheldon often has diarrhea but we haven't found the cause of it yet. Sorry I couldn't help much, I just wanted to say Hi once I noticed that you were in the area. I hope you figure it out and get Becca feeling better soon. Oh, we have also used motrin for diaper rash pain. Hi all. Becca has had diarrhea since Tuesday. Guest guest
Hi Eileen! Our doc had prescribed something called ketoconazole for Maddie one year when she had a diaper rash similar to what you're describing. It's a RX only cream, and we use it on all of the girls (who all seem to have skin sensitivities). It usually clears things up by the end of the day. HTH. Guest guest
My son, robert, gets real bad diahiarria when he takes anitboitics. It gets so sore that sometimes it starts to bleed. We have also used all sorts of diaper creams, but what also seems to help is to air the butt out. We set our hair dryer on cool and dry his butt for five minutes which is the same as letting him walk around for an hour without a diaper. I love the fact that I don't have to watch him wandering around without a diaper and worrying about him peeing or pooping. Five minutes in the bathroom with a hair dryer works great, along with lots of baths and tons of diaper cream. Mother of recently diagnosed with Pyruvate dehydrogenase deficiency, > Hi all. Guest guest
We have had this same problem for quite a long time with both Asenath and Zipporrah as they have both tended to have very acidic bm's that are usually diarrhea. We have found several things that help. 1. Using either water and soft paper towels or non-perfumed wipes help. 2. Sprinkle Nystop (generic form of Nystatin-this helps to prohibit yeast) over affected area followed by a butt cream paste and even another layer of A & D helps. If you are able to make a barrier and only wipe off a layer or two and not get all the way to the bum you will irritate it less and cause healing. 3. Air drying as much as possible as air promotes healing. 4. Check very frequently for bm's and change immediately even if only a little bit. Make sure to put butt cream on every time EVEN when not having diarrhea to prohibit the start of red bums, especially during days you know she is having diarrhea. ***We use a butt cream that the hospitals use that is made in compounding pharmacies with very thick ingredients. It does cost quite a bit but found NOTHING works as good (that's why hospitals use it!) Ours costs $20.00 for 454 GM's. It is a large container and can last for many months. You use a thin layer and it works wonders. We get ours from a Hy-Vee compounding pharmacy as they are the cheapest. We know of two other places that make the same butt cream for $50.00 and $60.00. Outrageous!!! They say the reason for the high cost is how hard it is to make due to the thick materials used. (Some the consistency of hard caramels.) Feel free to ask for more info if you want.
