Hi , I use Spectrums shortening which is non-hydrogenated and sold in health food stores in a blue and white tub on a shelf - no refrigeration . Spectrum also makes a cocnut butter but it is more expensive. Neither one contain soy either. on Long Island, New York * ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Butter flavored Crisco and Crisco are ok. You can also sub Nucoa for the butter. Guest guest
Does anyone ever cook chicken/apple together? I noticed someone posted a Honey Crisp apple/pork recipe yesterday. I baked a chicken with Honey Crisp (awesome when you can find them) but when I searched foodnetwork, I couldn't find any chicken/apple recipes. Do apples always go with pork or anything but chicken? Thanks, Debbie 40 cd

I bake apples and roast whole chickens together in the same pan. They come out great. Usually, I fill in the hole of the cored apple in with berries/cranberries/dried fruit and put a little coconut oil on them. And sometimes I add a little diluted apple cider to the bottom of the pan. Guest guest
Does anyone ever cook chicken/apple together? Thanks, Debbie 40 cd Hi Debbie – The pork recipe I posted yesterday says that you can also use chicken in place of the pork – and I’m sure it would be just as delicious. I think Granny apples would do well, too. Kathy UC since 12/05 SCD since 7/

'Cause as sure as you don't, as with this otherwise tummy looking recipe for Chicken Casserole With Apples And Cheese, someone will come back and say, " But we can use bread crumbs! I saw it in a recipe posted to the list! " In fact (general note to everyone on the list), it would be best if you re-type the recipe as SCD-legal. If posting a URL, please include the necessary SCD changes with the URL. Looking at that recipe, I wouldn't bother with making SCD bread crumbs; I'd just use a quarter-cup of almond or pecan flour. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Does anyone ever cook chicken/apple together? I don't know why you couldn't. Somewhere I have a cookbook from waaay back called something like " 100 ways to Cook Chicken " and I remember recipes with grapes, so you would think there would be apples as well. If you like, let me know and I will see if I can find it. There will be a LOT of illegals here but we might be able to figure something out! Guest guest
Thanks, last week I had leftover celery, one apple, thyme and an onion so I decided to bake a chicken that had to be baked. I made a bed with the celery, sliced the apples and onion and put the chicken on top of it. I put thyme inside and around it...awesome! But I love those flavors anyway. I tried to find a 'real' recipe because I have three honey crisp apples left--can't find them in the store anymore so thought I'd bake another chicken. The other one didn't have enough apples. I like the idea of apple cider on the bottom to concentrate the flavor. Does anyone know how to or if you can save fresh sage? Have a lot of it left and hate to see it go to waste. I thought maybe it was more 'weird' food I made up since I couldn't find anything on foodtv ;-). Debbie 40 cd Does anyone ever cook chicken/apple together?I don't know why you couldn't. Guest guest
Does anyone know how to or if you can save fresh sage? Have a lot of it left and hate to see it go to waste When I clip fresh sage from the garden, I either shake it to dust it off, or actually wash it if it seems to need it. Pick it over for odd little things if necessary. You may not need to do this with bought. If I have washed it, I roll in a towel to dry as much as possible and spread it out to dry a bit more (a few hours), Then I tie the bunch together with cotton string, take a paper grocery bag and poke a number of holes in the sides and bottom, and scrunch the top around the tops of the sage and (having left several feet of string at one end) tie it up on the kitchen curtain rod. I leave it however long it takes to dry so the sage will crumble. This has always worked for me. The sage gets a little wrinkly but it retains its natural color and good flavor until I harvest some next year.

It'll keep indefinitely. n > > When I clip fresh sage from the garden, I either shake it to dust it > off, or actually wash it if it seems to need it.
