Guest guest
Hi All. New to site. Have UC. Successful control of symptoms with SCD until quit smoking 2 mnths ago. Bad flare-up so decided to attempt SCD Intro diet (1st time). Have been following it to the letter - consuming only chick soup, water, SCD yog, eggs, grilled fish, and the odd (o/ripe) banana. I have been experiencing increased no. of BM's, and debilitating cramps every hour (never suffered cramps b4, just lots of blood and urgency). BM's are either liquid D or dark red looking mucus stuff that I can only liken to skin cells. Anyone else experienced similar? By the way, also had really bad headaches for first 3 days - now cleared up. Feel nausea and increased heart rate while sat on loo cramping. Thanks, Zoe. Guest guest
Hi Zoe,The symptoms may be attributed to the withdrawl from nicotine...When you stop smoking, you will have one or more of the following withdrawal symptoms.NauseaInsomniaDepressionAnxietyFatigueConstipationDiarrheaDizzinessHeadachesAlso, low blood sugar which could be the reason for the increased heart rate. I would assume that the longer you have smoked the longer these toxins will take to leave the body. Any time you are flushing toxins or negative bacteria, etc from the body you will feel crappy. Hang in there!!Hi All.New to site.Have UC. Successful control of symptoms with SCD until quit smoking 2 mnths ago. Bad flare-up so decided to attempt SCD Intro diet (1st time). Zoe, With regret, you might end up having to take up smoking again. (As I am very allergic to tobacco smoke, and dislike smoking in general, saying this doesn't come easy.) The lady who started the original SCD list also had UC. It was fully under control with SCD. She tried, multiple times, to quit smoking, and every time, she flared terribly. Each time, she ended up smoking again to get her flare under control. The other possibility, if you can't face smoking again (kudoes to you for stopping!) is to see about a prescription for low dose naltrexone. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks for the reply . However, I quit smoking 2 months ago, and just recently embarked upon the SCD Intro diet (on day 4 now). The symptoms are a result of the diet. I am just curious what specific symptoms other sufferers of UC may have experienced on the Intro diet. Anyone else? > > > Hi All. > > > > New to site. > > Have UC. Guest guest
Thanks Marilyn. No intention of starting again. I'm done with smoking and very pleased to say so despite my UC. What is naltrexone? is it nicotine based?

Or, heh, medical marijuana, which is supposed to have the same effect as smoking regular cigarettes for UC people. (I'm not sure about Crohn's people.) I think the dark red looking mucous stuff might be bloody mucous, withthe mucous from higher up in the colon (lower down it is bright red). It is not untypical to have D in the first few days of the diet as yourgut ecology starts changing radically - anytime really during thefirst month. Don't know why you would have cramps precisely, but it may betoxins releasing into your system as you experience bacterialdie off and the reaction of your system to that. Don't know about increased heart rate. Good luck on your healing journey. MaraMara
Guest guest
Know any Doc's that can do that for me? > Or, heh, medical marijuana, which is supposed to have the same effect as smoking > regular cigarettes for UC people. I'm done with smoking and very pleased to say so despite my UC. What is naltrexone? is it nicotine based? Naltrexone is not nicotine-based. Low dose naltrexone is something a number of SCDers have found useful. I'll have to let them comment on it, because I am still researching it for my own use. The principle LDN website is www.ldninfo.org. It's a bit complex, but if you carefully follow all the links, you'll find a good bit of information. The website isn't the best organized, mainly because the people running it aren't professional web page designers, and are doing this on a volunteer basis. There's a Yahoo group which is OK, but doesn't give much basic information. I actually got more information about LDN from the files at the LDN for Fibromyalgia Yahoo Group. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17222320 is one study pertaining to Crohn's Disease which is of interest, but it apparently also works for UC. Others may have more information -- one of our members is supposed to be compiling a file on LDN for the library, but hasn't had a chance to complete it. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Zoe,The same effects can be seen when starting the diet because you are empyting toxins and bad bacteria from your bowl. Many people in this group have shared posts about getting worse before getting better.
