,

Did he start taking Vitamin B complex with Niacin in it? I too had a bad reaction and heat related with red blotches from the Niacin. Just a thought.

3.) with us just starting the vitamins a few weeks ago he wonders if it could be a vitamin A toxicity. He says it can cause photosensitivity if one has too much vitamin a.

, How much Vit A is he taking? Ususally it takes a very large dose taken for a very long time to cause toxicity. Vit A is stored in the liver, and can be problematic for someone with liver dysfunction.

Beta Carotene is turned into Vit A in the body, and excess is stored in the skin and is typically harmless (large amounts will turn the skin a slight orange hue). This can also be bought in supplement form, or eating lots of orange and yellow veggies.

Has Zach started any other meds? I know that phenobarb is one that causes sun sensitivity. Now that Chelsea is being weaned off it, she tolerates the sun better. I know there are other drugs that cause sun sensitivity, Just another thought. . .

The only problem with Beta Carotene is that many compromised kids' bodies cannot convert it into Vitamin A.

Usually a sandpaper type rash on the arms or trunk signal Vitamin A toxicity.
