Guest guest
Hello - I have been on SCD now for 7 weeks, but didn't do the intro as my bowels movements aren't too bad. In second week I felt terrrible, then picked up. In the fourth week I added VSL3 probiotic and felt terrible again. I stopped taking it and picked up. Last week I tried going onto the intro diet - ate chicken broth, veggies, and added in eggs after a few days, and yoghurt and some sauerkraut juice, and a lot of raw garlic (as recommended in Natasha McBride's book. Anyway, after 4 days I felt dreadful again, and today noticed that I am not digesting some of the veg I was eating - the spinach came through completely intact. It wasn't this bad before intro. Can anyone suggest why the more purely I do the diet, the worse I feel? My main symptoms are nervous and psychological, and its these that get bad when I do things to improve my gut (like the intro diet). Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Hi , The diet has to be done " purely " from the get go. Mixing the various diets- like GAPS and SCD don't work- even though there is some overlap. On pecanbread.com, there is a guideline for the order of adding foods. Note, this is for ASD kids who are dairy free. SCD does not have to be dairy free, unless you don't tolerate it. Sauerkraut juice and raw garlic (anything raw except a banana) are advanced foods. It takes a while for the gut to heal, and eating advanced foods are a common mistake. VSL 3 is also not a legal probiotic on SCD. Suggestions- go back to intro for a short while. Cook your veggies well and puree them until you digest them better. Hold off on eggs and introduce them slowly. Keep a food diary, and go slow. I'm 7 months into SCD and I still puree my spinach although I can handle other veggies without having to puree them. Hope this helps PJ > > Hello - I have been on SCD now for 7 weeks, but didn't do the intro as my bowels movements aren't too bad. In second week I felt terrrible, then picked up. You used the VSL-3, which made you feel terrible, and which you stopped -- but it takes time to recover from that kind of thing! 2. You used a whole bunch of raw garlic. No disrespect to Dr. C-M, but, geeze, garlic is a potent item, and " a whole bunch " can make almost anyone sick. It'd do ME in, and it's a usual fact that if one of my recipes calls for 2 fingers of garlic, I probably put 8-10 fingers in when I make it for me! I love garlic, but I had to cut WAY back on it the first year or so I was on SCD! You were not doing the SCD " purely " when you were using VSL-3. Many items which are recommended on GAPS are not SCD legal. What are you eating now? " Veggies " can encompass a wide range of things which might, or might not be suitable. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
