Hello Voyeur,

My suggestion would be to find an MD that will take you seriously.

Short-term memory loss is serious. It can be from the sarcoidosis effecting your brain-- or it can be something simple like a B vitamin defiency or high blood sugars.

I say "something simple" as though it is a easy fix-- and if its blood sugar or vitamin defiency, then yeah-- it is fixable.

If it's the sarcoidosis-- then a combination of immunosuppressants can help. I know that i'm better off now than I was-- and yet has taken Methotrexate, Plaquenil and Remicade to get me back on a track. (I'm not well by any means, but I'm better.)

Neuropsych testing can confirm short-term memory problems and dementia issues. CT scans, MRI's with and without contrast, and blood tests should be done. It's time for a work-up-- and your MD should be sending you to a Neurologist so that this can be checked out-- if there isn't anything that "shows" on your bloodwork.

I also discovered that long term use of Ambien (for sleep) was part of my problem. Some of the sleep aides will disrupt memory.

Take a list of all your meds into your pharmacist, and ask them if there is anything that could be effecting your memory. It's an easy place to start.

What meds and treatment do they have you on? What tests have you had done? Are you on pain meds?

share a bit more info, and we'll see if we can't help you put the puzzle together.

Glad you've come out of hiding,

Blessings,

Hi ,

I have not read many posts as life got a

way from me, but welcome. This short term memory thing is truly a pain, but I find

that notes, I have several sticky notes all overJ, and I can now tell by my family faces

when I’m about to repeat something, so I just stop right there, I am

always making notes, now you want to know something funny, sometimes I’m

so busy it’s a short note that I think will trigger my memory, ha wrong, I

will read the note and not have a clue as to what it means at all, now that

makes me crazy, so I try to put some detail in my notes, maybe that would help

you out too?

Blessings,

Marla

Hi ,

I too have had problems with my short term memory over the last few years.

This seems to seems to fluctuate between bad and really bad, I think

depending on how I'm feeling at the time.

I work with a computer, so it's easy for me to enter reminders for

everything and they can then just flash up on the screen. I seem to have to

write notes on everything. During my hospital stays I used to keep a pad

and a pen on the side and write down everything. My family would then come

in and look at the pad and that was the only way they knew what was going

on, because I couldn't never remember to tell them.

My Doctor is fully aware of my memory problems and monitors this everytime I

go to see him. It seems to because of the Neuro-Sarcoid - but in my case it

could be partly to do with a trial medication I was and am still taking. My

Mother comes to all my medical appointments for this reason and my Doctor

quite often talks to her, because he knows that I forget (but we laugh

together about this).

My long term memory however, is really good.

Hope this helps a little.

I have been on and off pain meds for a long time. It

is very very frustrating still yet. I am about to

drop my college classes and I am half way through the

semester but I am going to talk to my Prof tomorrow,

today. I have taken several sleeping pills as well

but quit takign them. I have had alot of problems as

of lately to see my pulmonoligist amd I am thinking

about changing. They changed my appointment and I did

not get the notice in the mail till 2 weeks after the

change. It takes a good 3 months to get in th see

her. Ocne again, FRUSTRATED>

hi,

My short term memory loss started right before my neuro sarcoid attack. I would put my glasses or keys or anything down and forget where they are. i would ask my family to help and finally they just go tired of it. they thought I was testing them.

it's been 3 years after the attack and I still suffer from it. the worse part is that it also effects my speech, I can't remember words. A few months ago, I wanted to call my wife and I couldn't remeber her name. The scary part for me is I keepwondwerinf if I have another attack, will I remember anything.

Pomy, I know this is an extremely slow answer, but I am just getting around to working on reading my emails. I have the same symptoms that you have, and I have in the past had this wierd deal where the word I would look at would disconnect. I would try & read "everywhere", but to me it would look like "eve rywh e re", I would nearly freak trying to put the word back together; but I would eventually get it. Now on the good side, alot of people on this site have dealt with this much longer than us, and none of them are lost yet, just memory challenged now & again. Neurosarc doesn't seem to go stark raving wild like alzheimers does. Hi , I know everyone thought I had fell off the planet or died, but I did neither. I'm been working hard and my internet access has been very limited. The neuro symptoms are not getting better and I will probably contact my neuro soon. Oh well, what's the fun of being on top of the hill if you can't run down the other side....Take Care, Connie Solberg wrote: Connie, I like your term

This post on short term memory hits close to home. The drive to work

this morning was...interesting. I didn't get lost; it just was no

longer clear where I was going or why. After all, real men are never

lost (ladies, feel free to roll your eyes if you must) hence there is

never a need to stop & ask directions. I've been down this road

before...at least I think I have.

On the more serious side, the short term memory lapses come & go.

The long term stuff is usually still in there but can typically be

coaxed out if needed. Names, faces, dates, etc are often lost in the

labyrinth of neurons. Write the important stuff down in a consistant

place so you can find it as needed. Other memory joggers (colors,

smells, associations) stimulate the mind making recall easier and

having a special place to keep keys, phones, etc helps minimize the

stress of searching for misplaced objects. BTW, changing your door

locks to deadbolts will keep you from getting accidently locked

out...I've lost count of how many times I forgot my keys.

The DDs & I affectionately named these memory challenged times " Dory "

moments, after the absent minded fish in " Finding Nemo " . It's not a

bad thing. After all, how many other folks get to start each day

afresh...didn't you see " 50 First Dates " ? I'd undoubtedly look

forward to the prospect of a clean slate each day if I could hold

that thought for more than a moment or two.

In the meantime, I've posted a sign on my fridge reminding me to do

as Dory suggests and " Just keeping swimming " . I hope that each of

you is able to do the same...stay well my friends. Tony

Well Tony you have to share that name

with me, as my family name me Dory too, I was dx about the time the movie came

out, and my daughter who is 11 now, would start singing “keep on swimming”

more times then I can remember. I had more problems getting home from work as

the more tired I am the worse my symptoms! I am now working from home, will

see how that goes?
