I am writing to ask for prayer for my oldest son Luke for several reasons. He just left for Colorado on a missions trip with about 20 members of his church. He is very excited about the trip as he desires to become a missionary after college. But I have concerns about his health and his ability to remain safe on this trip. As some of you may know, he had a stroke in January that affected his left side. He had vision problems, speech difficulty, a drooping mouth w/ paralysis still apparent on the left side, writing difficulty w/ problems still, and some more sensory issues. We feel he had already had a stroke before this as he had already been dealing with lack of the ability to feel temperatures (for instance-not being able to feel the heat from a camp fire or the coldness of an ice pack) or pain sensations are quite limited. He has told us on rare occasions he can feel things or in certain spots he can feel temperature such as his spine. ANYWAY...this past weekend after a very long, tiring day at my parent's home Luke had a horrible migraine. He was writhing in pain and we were extremely worried as the last stroke came with a migraine less painful than this one. Luke didn't want to talk about it until yesterday and I tried to leave him alone even though I had noticed increased drooping of the left side of his face. Yesterday he revealed that since the migraine he has been experiencing tons of needle-like prickles/stabs in his legs; in particular his left one. When he walks around it begins and has happened up to 6 times a day lasting about 20 minutes. He also commented that whenever he does his routine crunches/situps it happens each time. Of course the recent episode with more problems makes me worried about him being up in the Rockies, hiking up Pike's Peak, too much sun, working too hard, etc. as his last two migraines causing strokes happened following lots of exercise, clearly wearing himself out. He is 16 now and he usually can listen to his body and slow down, but I am really worried what will happen if he has a migraine or stroke while being so far away or while hiking or on the river they plan to raft on just before coming home. I would appreciate your prayers for Luke and if anyone has experienced the stabbing needle issues and knows anything that might help him I would appreciate your advice. I hope everyone's holiday went well! I just started a Caringbridge page for the kids that you can check out at: www.caringbridge.org/ia/mitomomof9! Darla,

It is so hard when they are old enough to make their own decisions

and to let them go. I am fearful for Drew too. I will be praying for

a great trip for Luke and a happy and safe return.

Hi Darla,

I saw in your post that Luke will be around Pikes Peak, and I just

wanted to let you know if he needs anything I am close to that area and

can help if need be. I know the altitude can cause problems of it's

own so just wanted to offer. If you want to contact me off list that

is fine, or on is great too.

I will definitely be praying for Luke that he will have a fun, growing
