Guest guest
, Welcome to the group. That's incredible your insurance company will even pay the travel expenses!! That goes to show the insurance companies are waking up that this is a much better and less expensive procedure. Darn, wish I thought of asking for travel expenses, too (LOL). Guest guest
Subject: Insurance company pushing the MGB?? I know you read most of our letters, but I just wanted to make sure you saw THIS one. It makes me wonder WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE????? Your fellow surgeons bash you and an 'un-named insurance company is PROMOTING you????? HUH?? WHAT GIVES?? Hugs, Hi, I was contacted about 6 months ago by a lawyer representing, he said, an insurance company in Michigan. We had operated upon several of his company's patients and they had noted how low the costs were and how short hospital stay was, about 1/4 of what they were paying for when their patients had the surgery in MI. He wanted to talk about a contract of some kind. I told him " sure " and said to check out the web site and our patients to confirm our remarkable results. He said OK and that was the last I heard about it. I guess they liked what they saw? Remember my fees and hospital charges are 1/3 to 1/4 what is being charged around the country. I worked at a University for many years and just figured that was that. As we have gotten busier I keep thinking about increasing my fees to allow me to hire more help in the office. We might hire a new Physician's Assistant. Well we will see. RR Rutledge, M.D., F.A.C.S. Guest guest
Tracey, Congrats on everything! I wish you well in your quest to breastfeed. If you have any problems I encourage you to contact a lactation consultant as they can help with any problem. Glad to have you here with us! Axelrod introduction Hello, My name is Tracey French and I had Lap/RNY on May 21, 2001. It's hard to believe it has been so long ago! My life has completely changed in so many ways! My total weight loss was 150 lbs. down from 318 to 168 in 15 months,I gained a little back and seemed to level out at 175,,give or take a few lbs for water retention.. since then I have found the most wonderful man in the world, while we were dating he and I both gained about 15 lbs. We were married on June 28 2003. In Septemeber we were overjoyed to find out we are pregnant!! When I went to the doctor on Oct 22, I was shocked to learn that I had gained more weight than I thought, I was up to 208, I thought I would die! Since then, I have gained another 20lbs. Our baby is due on May 17th. I am not worring about the weight I am gaining at this point I have done well and my doctor is very pleased with my progress, my problem is how am I going to lose this weight again after I have this baby and I also REALLY want to breastfeed.I tried breastfeeding my daughter when she was born, 10 years ago, but ,I was not sucessful, I only managed to pump for a month and she never could latch on, my breasts were terribly huge then and I had flat nipples, they don't seem to be so flat now , the doctor said they are fine, and my breasts are still large but not like they used to be.. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has some advice for me on this matter. Thank You, Tracey
Guest guest
Hey Tracey, Welcome to this group and congrats on your pregnancy. I have found that in my support group the people that are unsuccessful or gain weight back always say that they left the main rules - they started eating the wrong foods, not eating protein first, they didn't exercise or drink water like they were supposed to, they didn't wait to drink until after meals. I think that if you watch what you are gaining(or eating) during your pregnancy and get as much safe exercise like walking in that you can it will help you and your baby and your delivery. Also keep your fluid *water intake up. I've heard from people on this site that the weight will come off after delivery but I think you'd have to go back to the basic rules (listed above) to have true success. It seems to me that your weight loss came off quickly but that's just my idea since I had to fight for every pound through exercising - but I think there is also a difference between people like me that constantly went from one diet to another and other people (maybe like you - I'm unsure) that didn't wack out their metabolisms by being on so many diets during their lifetime. I think you will find that the weight will come off after baby and breastfeeding will most likely help if you are able to do that this time. My best to you. I'm just relaying what I've heard others in your position saying. I hope this gives you some hope! Guest guest
Hi Callie Welcome to the group! Also, congrats on getting married! I never had a problem with getting sick post-op before or during this pregnancy, but I am still severly anemic, (used to have IV treatments once a week) take extra folic acid, prenatals, eat as much of WHATEVER I can handle, hubby gives me 1ml of B12 weekly and I'm still losing weight. This is obviously a concern for me as my tummy is growing by the minute and my collarbones and hipbones are sticking out further each week. Pending your ferum count (iron) and folic acid...see if your doctor can refer you to a hemotologist so that a complete blood workup can be done. My pcp tried regular supplements on me and nothing changed after three months - the only thing that helped was the IV's. This way you'll be ahead of the game...and you won't have to wait for results AFTER finding out your pregnant. (My hemotologist still insists that I probably would have carried my two pregnancy losses...if my iron and folic acid were normal.) Good luck! in Detroit
Guest guest
Hi, What a nice group. My name is Pam and I live in Sacramento with my three shelties and my mom who moved in last year. My dogs are the main focus of my life. We do herding, agility, and obedience. Well, we train in agilty. I haven't been able to show because if you';ve ever seen it you know how fast the people run. I'm tired of having to miss half of every class because I can't stand for more than a few minutes at a time and forget about running. I've been thinking about gastric bypass for awhile but didn't think I could afford it. My regular doctor told me I should lose weight but never mentioned that kaiser had a gastric bytpass program. But I landed in the hospital on Sunday with an infection and the doctor that took care of me there told me about it. He referred me to a sleep apnea clinic too. I wweigh 345 and have high blood pressure. My regular doctor has to start the process and since he's never even mentioned it that may be a challenge. I see him next wednesday so untill then, I'm gathering info and trying to decide if I really want to take this big risk. Thanks for listening. Guest guest
Hi Pam, Regarding your PCP...he may be like mine. I actually talked to mine about, asking some basic questions and such. He was cool to the subject and skinny. So I figured, " no way " . About a year later (last December) I went to him again. This time, my questions were more pointed, and specific. Now he is warm to the subject and says, " yes " . (color me surprised, I was ready for battle) So I ask him, " why are you for it now, when you seemed to be against it before? " He replied that he didn't want to be my deciding factor...meaning the decision should come soley within me. Not from someone else. This is a big decision, and should only be done because YOU want to. Not because your doctor, lover, mother thinks it should be so. So just be calm, and persistent. Do some research beforehand (check out the files section on the lefthand toolbar) because I think if you walk in there armed with at least some knowledge, it will impress him that you are serious...and heading towards becoming ready. Good luck to you, > Hi, > What a nice group. My name is Pam and I live in Sacramento with my three shelties and my mom who moved in last year. My dogs are the main focus of my life. Guest guest
Hi Pam, I also just joined this group and fyi, its great. My doctor also failed to mention anything. Im 26, 460lbs, with diabetes/severe asthma/copa/hbp/sleep apnea/and neuropathy. You think someone would've said something. I had tried everything under the sun to try to lose the weight. Then I finally heard about the surgery, and asked my doctor right away. He told me that he had thought of me as a perfect candidate, but didnt want to bring it up, until I did (go figure).. Well he moved on it and after a 2 year wait, its finally gonna happen on Tuesday the 27th. So be strong and tell your doctor that you're ready. If like me you've tried all else, it might be the best decision you've ever made. Good luck and I wish you the best.azurewinds@... wrote: Hi, What a nice group. Guest guest
Welcome, Pam! (another Pam - how will we tell you all apart?) I've been in this group for about a month now, and I'm learning a huge amount. I'm right about your weight, too; last time I was weighed (last week) I checked in at 346 - which I hope will be the highest I ever get! I'm still at the bare beginning stages of this process. My PCP made the initial referral and I've seen the nutritionist, but nothing more yet. I'm waiting for the psych evaluation and then, hopefully, I'll be recommended for the program. I spent a couple of years trying to make up my mind whether or not this was something I even wanted to consider. I still have days when I'm ambivalent, but I'm feeling more and more convinced that this is the right choice for me. Being in this group is a good place to find out whether it will be right for you. Glad you're here! Cathy C.
Guest guest
Good luck, Pam! You didn't mention your height...but it sounds very likely that you'll be accepted in to the program. You'll probably wind up having to lose 35 lbs. or so beforehand, so be prepared for that. And, if you saw my earlier post to Azin...it would probably behoove you to get started and see if you can lose a bit more on your own (if possible), because that will just help you with your final results all the more. It is a scary decision, one that shouldn't be entered into without a lot of thought, reflection and research. Don't do it if you aren't willing to make the lifestyle changes: but, realize that the lifestyle changes are made easier by the surgery itself. At least in the first year or two. After that, you'll have to rely upon the good habits that you've developed over the prior two years...because your stomach will be able to tolerate more food. I'm thrilled with my decision. I have lost 86 lbs. since I walked into orientation at 261. I just had the surgery 3.5 months ago, and I have another 40 I'd like to lose. I'm hoping to do that by the end of the year...which will require that I average about 13.5 lbs a month. Definitely something I can do, as long as I stick with the program. And you can do this, too. running will be much easier. 86 lbs later, and I'm much much more agile. So, not only your doggies, but you too will excel in the agility test! Welcome, let us know if we can answer any specific questions for you. Go to obesityhelp.com, and bariatricsupportcenter.com . Both have lots of helpful information. Good luck! Guest guest
You can call me Pamela if you want to keep it straight, or Pam L. That's interesting that we are about the same weight and the same point in the journey. I've been thinking about it for a couple of years too. I've tried so many times and there is just no way it's going to get better with diet alone. When I was in the hospital this last time there was a woman in the next bed who was about 50 pounds heavier and ten pounds older. She was in bad shape. It was like seeing my future if I continue the way I am. So it's time to bite the bullet and go for it. Pam Re: Introduction Welcome, Pam! Guest guest
Hi Pam, I agree with , you should bring it up your doctor to get the ball rolling. I wouldn't worry too much, now, about apnea results. Your weight and high blood pressure, should get you approved. Your results can be added at anytime. Not only that, your doctor can tell from your symptoms if he/she believes you do have sleep apnea and will add that upon his examination he believes you do have apnea and you are a good candidate. Once your doctor agrees, there are a couple of appointments before your paperwork goes for approval. This is not something thats done in one day. Also, at anytime you can always change your mind. But, it is important to get the ball rolling. You'll be in my prayers. - MICHELLE URIBE wrote: Hi Pam, Me personally I believe the sooner your PCP gets the ball rolling the better. If I have to lose 10% It might take me awhile but it will be worth it not to plan my path everywhere I go by places to sit and rest. Pam Re: Introduction Hi Pam,Regarding your PCP...he may be like mine. I actually talked to mine about, asking some basic questions and such. He was cool to the subject and skinny. So I figured, "no way".About a year later (last December) I went to him again. This time, my questions were more pointed, and specific. Now he is warm to the subject and says, "yes". (color me surprised, I was ready for battle)So I ask him, "why are you for it now, when you seemed to be against it before?"He replied that he didn't want to be my deciding factor...meaning the decision should come soley within me. Not from someone else. This is a big decision, and should only be done because YOU want to. Not because your doctor, lover, mother thinks it should be so. So just be calm, and persistent. Do some research beforehand (check out the files section on the lefthand toolbar) because I think if you walk in there armed with at least some knowledge, it will impress him that you are serious...and heading towards becoming ready.Good luck to you,> Hi,> What a nice group. I wweigh 345 and have high blood pressure.> My regular doctor has to start the process and since he's never even mentioned it that may be a challenge. I see him next wednesday so untill then, I'm gathering info and trying to decide if I really want to take this big risk. Thanks for listening. > Pam Ciao, __________________________________________"Life is a coin.
