Guest guest
Zoe,It was the nicotine that was working with SCD to keep you stable. Nicotine is an immune suppressant and studies have been done to see if it would be a viable 'remedy' for UC. My best thought is that you are in absolute complete detox mode. Were there any foods in the intro diet that are different to what you were eating before? Sometimes things that didn't bother you before will bother you later as you heal for some strange reason, then go away even further down the healing path. You might consider cutting back or out the yogurt for now. Not only are you starving bacteria, you are repopulating good ones. It may just be too much for your system to handle. I would take epsom salt baths (2 cups to a bath up to your navel of very warm water) and relax for 10-15 minutes before bed. It will help with the detoxification and other things. Go to www.epsomsaltcouncil.org/health_benefits.htm to see how else it will help you. I've just received a notice of a new site called www.ldnaware.org. You might find some info there regarding LDN.It will take time, you will get better. Hang tough!AmeliaHusband UC 9 yrs, SCD 17monthsStarts LDN tomorrow evening! Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. I may have to cut out yoghurt. I am not sure how to proceed now though as I am on day 5 now. I think I must be improving, as last night was the 1st that I didn't have to get up for the loo. I am still having cramps and D every hour today though, and am reluctant to introduce new foods when my D is not under control. I know that 5 days is supposed to be the max. so what now? Go back to eating advanced SCD? That doesn't make sense to me. I want to keep trying this to 7 or maybe 10 days, but am not sure if I should keep the diet as is or eliminate more stuff. Do I cut out the yoghurt, the eggs, the carrots, or the bananas? At the moment I am eating over-ripe banana (max 1/2 per day), eggs, chick soup w carrots, fish poached in the soup, strained yog sometimes with 1 tspn honey, or the intro cheesecake. (Not all on the same day, but this is what I choose from). Have not had the gelatin, as I cannot get the grape juice or apple cider from where I am living at the mo. Any guidance/ideas would really be appreciated.
Guest guest
I am glad to hear that you are having some improvement. Usually the D is a bit better under control, but my husband was the same, at 5 days, he didn't see much help either. We definitely messed it up in the beginning. : ) Eggs are generally to be avoided when D is active, so you might also consider that. Make sure you chew your food really well or puree it. If you want to try something new, usually cooked apples are a good next food. When making the broth (see BTVC book), put a bit of apple cider vinegar in it (about 1 tablespoon per pint of water). Simmer low for at least 4 hours. When it is chilled, it will actually be stiff like gelatin. This is the most healing kind of broth you can make. Do not warm it in the microwave! Studies have shown microwaving broth will destroy the most helpful part of a broth. AmeliaHusband UC 9 yrs, SCD 17 monthsLDN tomorrow night! Guest guest
You can juice your own oranges or grapes to make the gelatin. The gelatin was very important to my intro diet. You can try adding some beef to your diet. I tolerated roast and hamburger patties very well. Also, you could try soft and/or hard boiled eggs. I never had D and I've heard they made it worse. You don't have to be symptom free to add new things. But, if it makes your symptoms worse, definately stop. For me, I had to cut out the yogurt for my symptoms to get better. The die-off was just too bad. Two weeks or so after I quit yogurt, I started back at 1 teaspoon a day and working my way up from there. It tooks months before I could tolerate a whole 7 oz jar. Guest guest
Do I cut out the yoghurt, the eggs, the carrots, or the bananas?I'd try cutting out eggs, but that's just me. I think you just have to go with what feels right (or wrong) to you. I know a lot of people say they have issues with D and eggs though, so maybe try cutting those out and see if it helps. Guest guest
Hi- I am glad you're improving. I am on my 3rd week of SCD. I am still on Intro without eggs and honey. I did only Chicken soup for 4 days, and then I started adding things. I have been taking bananas and I have added apple/pear sauce, which I seem to tolerate well. I couldn't take eggs or spinach. I am going to try adding butternut or acorn squash. Please check some of the earlier threads ( " Newbie... " ), and Marilyn said she was on roast beef+few other things for 6 weeks, in response to a similar question of mine. I still have symptoms but when I add I make sure that things don't get worse. I hear that you should be ok, and suggest you go slowly. Good luck. -Andy. > > > > Thanks for your reply. > > I may have to cut out yoghurt.
