Guest guest
Hello everyone! I don't know if my message will show up in time, but I hope it does. There will be a program on the Discovery Channel tonight at 9:00 pm about obesity (?)surgery. It's hosted by Carnie , so I assume it's about surgery. Just wanted to FYI anyone who might not know it's going to be on. Also, I will be taping it. waiting for approval BMI=45.

Guest guest
All I have to say is bummer and that sucks. I was looking forward to some positive info about the Lap DGB/DS procedure. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for my copy of the Evening Magazine show. Thanx for the info! > I watched this and they really didn't tell as much as expected about the > RNY. Guest guest
I watched it and wasn't so much dissapointed as curious why they would have Carnie narrate, but not be seen and not tell her story. I was impressed that both sides of the story were told. This type of surgery isn't for everyone, but the 2 people they did show, were representative of the success of obesity surgery. I think that every little bit of positive publicity is good. > > I watched this and they really didn't tell as much > > as expected about the > > RNY. THey didn't even mention the DS!!! Guest guest
For what it's worth... I thought, that at least the word is getting out and the more shows that talk about this surgery, the more apt we are to get insurance approval. I am sure we all want more information regarding the DS, but this will take time and since it's under the umbrella of " gastric bypass surgery " it will get overlooked. Maybe someone needs to educate the media. Or maybe when someone famous has the DS, we will get noticed. Just my 2 cents Sally in Michigan Preop Dr. Scholten > Hello everyone! Guest guest
Stefany, Maybe we should write the discovery channel and ask why they didn't do a show on the BPS/DS since it is a much more effective surgery! There are several girls from this group who would make terrific spokesmen for this procedure, Kris, Ronda, Bonnie, and the list goes on! What do ya think guys? Are you up for stardom? lol And hey Stephany, you could be the one they follow through the process! It has to be you cause you're cuter than me! hehehe Angel2 --- " Betsy M. Guest guest
Thanks, , I'd love to catch the show tonight and wouldn't have known if you hadn't posted. Best, Joann in Mobile
Guest guest
I am SO not surprised that they didn't say anything about the DS. For some reason that is the reaction I get from every living being outside this support group and my medical group, " oh, the surgery Carnie had? " No, this one is BETTER, lol. It's more intense, I say. More intestinal work. But I have been down the surgical road before, and I have lost weight and gained it all back and more to act as another statistic to add to the failure rate of other surgeries. May this one be truly the last I have. The show, I thought, was fair, even though uninformed about this particular specialty. I was glad for the man who lost weight without surgery even though in the back of my mind I hoped for his sake he would be able to keep most of his weight off. I like to think positive and maybe he is just not at the same point I was at when I decided to have this surgery. He's doing it another way, simple as that, it seems to me. Good for all of them for trying to do something about their weight... Robin

For > some reason that is the reaction I get from every living being outside > this support group and my medical group, " oh, the surgery Carnie > had? " The reason that the show Carnie narrated focused only on the RnY is because Carnie signed a contract with her surgeon stating that she would promote the surgery she received and only that one, plus she is obligated to push her particular surgeon.. If they had wanted to do a show on all types of obesity surgery, they couldn't have gotten Carnie to host it. It kinda sucks, but there it is.. unless someone famous gets a DS, we'll never get very much publicity. Just my .02 cents..
