Guest guest
I can't imagine anyone who isn't a wimp about pain. I know that some aren'tbut I definitely am and want to do anything to avoid it. Glad to hear yoursurgery went all right. You will now go through times of feeling great andfeeling really lousy. Don't let the lousy times discourage you. Your gutis still healing for at least three months and the bad stuff that happensduring this time is not permanent though sometimes it seems like it will be.Regards.Joe Frost, old gentleman, not old fartSan , Tx., 60 years oldSurgery 11/29/00 by Dr. WelkerLateral Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch340 Starting Weight, currently 237http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Patients/Joe/joe.htmlhttp://recovery.hiwaay.net/ Fwd: Re: I'm Baaaack!> > Hi Joe..> you missed my surgery by a coupla days. Guest guest
Hi Joe. Welcome back. Have you had bloodwork done since your surgery. I am a little disappointed in my bloodwork. I can't believe that my Vit. D. went down lower than last time and I am taking an extra 1000 miligrams a day, 3 Adeks and it is in my calcium and my centrum. I don't know if anyone has had this problem but I am curious. Ellen(Pam

Guest guest
Thanks, Joe- Somehow it makes me feel a bit better hearing you say it.. I think I'm so hard on myself because I've never had any surgery except tonsils & wisdom teeth, & I keep thinking that I should be feeling better already. Which intellectually, I know is nonsense.. but then I was always my worst critic.. Thanks, Joe.. And again, Welcome back! Hugs, Liane > > Hi Joe.. > > you missed my surgery by a coupla days. Guest guest
Ellen(Pam): I'm a bit confused at to exactly who you are. I seem to recall that you are Ellen and are using Pam's computer or Pam and using Ellen's computer. But yes I have had bloodwork done twice, once at about 2-1/2 months and again at about 5-1/2 months. The first time I had low potassium and Vitamin D. On the more recent one a bit low on iron and protein. Cures were simple. I take ADEKs in the AM and 3 drops of Calciferol, a liquid vitamin D in the evening. I have upped my protein and I take an iron tablet in the morning. One problem with Vitamin D is that it is not easily absorbed. So the liquid has worked great for me. The pharmacy had to order it for me but at 3 drops a day it will last forever. Regards. Guest guest
Joe, I must've blinked. Where in the heck were you? I take it some additional procedure? Welcome " home " again, and good luck with your OA-linked venture. --Steve --
Guest guest
Hi Joe, I too am happy that you are back! I value your wisdom and levelheadedness. My son-in-law may have testicular cancer, and I will be up in Oklahoma City for a while. I've put my WLS on temporary pause. Thanks, Betsy bjahncke@... Guest guest
I am so sorry for your disappointment. Just have faith that everything happens for a reason - even though we have no clue what it is! Take a deep breath and know it is only a few weeks away! Barbara From: sue mendez Sent: Wednesday, November 30, 2005 4:54 PMTo: gastric-bypass-support-kaiser-patients Subject: I'm Baaaack! Good God! I got to UCLA, admitted, I.V.'d heparined, fancy pantyhose to avoid blood clots, poked, prodded, dressed in the sexy gown, and they had an emergency. My 8:30 surgery got pushed, to 1:00, 3:00, 5:00, and finally DECEMBER 20!!!!! So here I am, bruised, tear stained, depressed, well hydrated (thanks to 6 hours of I.V.), and empty boweled. I will have surgery on my birthday. As I sit and wallow in my own pity party, I will pray for the person that had surgery yeaterday and had complications, when I left the hospital at 3:00 she was still on the operating table. This was the first open for one surgeon and the second for the other surgeon. I will pray for their steady hands and tired bodies as they try to piece together a WLS gone wrong. Thanks for all the hugs and love, and now I would ask you to pray with me.tearfully, Sue
Guest guest
Oh Sue... I'm so sorry to hear this. Shed your tears dear, but don't lose hope or go off the deep end. Keep the faith and stay on track. The 20th is only 3 weeks away. Even though it may seem an eternity, it'll be here before you know it. What better Christmas gift could you give yourself? Guest guest
Sue.... Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I think everything happens for a reason and sometimes it's not real apparent why but you are still healthy and maybe you will get a surgeon with more experience. I hope and pray that the other woman made it OK. Hang in there.... Gordy > > Good God! Guest guest
Chances are, in retrospect, that the lady did not follow all the rules, maybe her bowels were not empty, maybe she ate before surgery (and lied about it), I know they asked me a lot of times throughout the day if I had done all of that. Of course I did, and why they wouldn't bump someone from tomorrow and let me stay overnight and do it tomorrow, who knows. UCLA is totally one of the best, the mere fact that this is a rarity is testimony to that. The surgeons are top notch, for this to be their first and second emergency in such a large program is amazing. December 20 is my birthday, I think I'll wear a tierra or a party hat, and my birthday suit! No cake, and maybe bring ballons for my best birthday present ever! My surgeon is cancelling his vacation, and so am I....I had reservations to stay in Vegas for two weeks, my son just got out of the Coast Guard and moved there (he was hired as a paramedic for Harrah's). I really hoped to spend time with him, but that will have to wait now. UCLA is a super busy place and they fit me in where they could. I got to go to my youngest son's wrestling kick off dinner tonight. That meant a lot to him for me to be there. He wrestles in Long Beach this weekend (Friday and Saturday), so I can go to that too. To quote Dr. Seuss.... " I know just what to do " for the next time, I'll be a poopin' pro! It's been a very long day and I think I'll take a nice hot bubble bath, I've been showering for the past week with antibacterial soap, some aromatherapy is going to be heaven! The doctor was sweet and wrote me a note so I should get my vacation days back, I'll use them in January instead. The bitch is, I will probably have to cancel the classes I signed up for for next quarter. I don't see me wanting to be in school four nights a week just two weeks after surgery. So much for graduating next May. Oh well, that's life. Hugs and good night.... Sue

Guest guest
Awww, Sue, that's awful. But I am thankful that it wasn't you who had such complications. Guest guest
Oh Sue Im so sorry you went through this! I can only imagine the range of emotions you went through. From frustration, to disappointment, to anger, and some fear too knowing the other surgery had complications! You have really had to struggle through this journey. I wish I was more eloquent in my writing and had some profound words of comfort to offer you. But Im sending a hug your way and prayers too. Huggles > > Good God!
