Guest guest
Cheryl:Every doctor handles an endiscopy differently. Some are equipped to do itin the office and others farm you out to a gastroenterologist (?) Some haveyou go to a day surgery unit and some have you go to the hospital. Justdepends on the doctor. As to weight regain, it is fairly common to lose down to your goal weightand then gain back about 10 pounds. Then stabilize there. But if youreating habits are not altered by then, yes, you can gain lots of weightback. This is very rare but it would be dishonest to say it can't happen. For those who either have this problem or are afraid they might there is analternative. Many of us spent a long time in OA before getting our surgery. Many of us who did feel that the spiritual and emotional healing we gotthere was very important to us and the fact that we are losing weightdoesn't mean that we still don't need those facets of our OA program. Ihave set up a mailing list here on Yahoo called WLS-12StepRecovery. It isfor those who have had, are scheduled to have or want to investigate anytype of WLS surgery as a tool in their OA recovery. It is also open tothose who have had surgery and are terrified of weight regain. Aren't weall? I hear some say that they got this surgery so they could let go of allthat OA stuff. That's fine and this program is not for them. For those who miss OA, this can be a lifesaver and all are welcome. It isnot affiliated with OA but we follow their principles of the steps andtraditions to what degree we can. Anyone who wants to join can go to and type in WLS-12StepRecovery or send an e-mail toWLS-12StepRecovery-subscribe . We are in the process ofjoining The Recovery Groups, a large OA based set of groups, over 30 ofthem. Most are here on Yahoo but not all. When we do we will change ourname but that will all be done automatically. This will give us a hugeresource from which to draw. See the link at the end of my signature. Andit also means that traditional OA groups are at least noticing WLS if nottotally accepting it. IMO this is a huge step forward.I know that's a lot more than you asked for but I can't stand not putting ina plug for my group.Regards.Joe Frost, food addictSan , Tx., 60 years oldSurgery 11/29/00 by Dr. WelkerLateral Gastrectomy with Duodenal Switch340 Starting Weight, currently 237http://www.duodenalswitch.com/Patients/Joe/joe.htmlhttp://recovery.hiwaay.net/> > thank you..as long as i am knocked out. did you go to a gi dr to have> it done> or hospital? also, with the ds do you go back to your regular way of> eating> after a period of time. i know the rny you always eat smaller> portions. can> you gain weight back?> cheryl> --- End forwarded message --->>>
