Thank you, EVERYONE for all you prayers, good wishes and chicken

swinging! Not only did my insurance company grant my appeal, but I

got a DATE for surgery with Dr Pomp on Monday June 25th!!!!!

I'm SOOOOOOO psyched! I would have taken any date he could squeeze

me in, but 6/26 is AWESOME for me! My kids are done with school for

the summer and plans are already made for them to spend the week with

their grandparents. My dh will be free to actually come with me to

Mt Sinai and give me a little moral support. I was a little nervous

I'd have to go it alone as we had no one to watch the kids during

school.

So, now I'm believing that God had a reason for having me go through

the insurance denial... to educate me, make me a better resource for

other pre-ops, to make me a stronger individual and appreciate this

miracle just that much more!

This is so real that I do have to begin telling people. I'm a little

nervous. It is one thing to fight for what you want with relative

strangers (doctors, insurance people, etc) but it is entirely

different to get flack from people I do know. Not that I *know*

there will be resistance, but don't know how supportive family and

friends/work will be. Maybe not at all...

But I will get through it. Everything until now has built me up to

this point. Back in February when I began this journey I couldn't

*imagine* telling anyone. Now I can. I'm *nervous* but I will get

through it.

Thank you all again for getting me to this place. I wouldn't be here

without your help and support.

Congratulations, Terri! June 26! Woohoo!

Don't worry too much about telling people. My suggestion is only

tell the entire story to the people you feel comfortable telling. I

did not have one person give me any flack--and I was a little afraid

of that also. I did say to a couple of people that I wasn't asking

for their approval or agreement about what I was doing, I was simply

asking for their support. And all I got was support! I'm also the

kind of person who doesn't want people asking me a million questions

about things, so I sort of established my boundaries upfront with

people. I share what I'm comfortable sharing at any given moment.

For those who really had a need for a lot of info (and not many did),

I gave them our DS site address so they could read about the

procedure. For most people, the simple explanation I gave was

enough. Most people simply said they were very happy for me, glad I

was doing something positive, and wished me only the very best.

You're on your way now, girl!

Terri,

That's wonderful, I'm so happy for you!! :) *hugs* As for telling

everyone, don't forget you're not obligated, especially if you think

it may cause stress or friction. You don't have that much time

between now and when you have your surgery and you don't necessarily

want to spend that time educating and placating ppl. You may want to

only tell a few people now or tell some people after your surgery or

just when they ask, etc. You're already an inspiration for those who

are researching BPD/DS and are fighting insurance denials, you don't

have to become the duodenal switch spokesperson if you think it may

make you uncomfortable :)

We'll be swinging chickens for you!
