Guest guest
This is a problem I ran into recently involving my youngest daughter that scared us all to death till the doctor figured it out. My 17 yr old had a severe kidney infection, the doctor put her on cipro; within 3 days she went from the last platelet count being 300,000 to 61,000. They almost had to do a platelet transfusion. The doctor said that 1% of people have a reaction to floxins like this. If it had not been for the fact that her WBC's & RBC's were in the normal range it would have been very indicative of leukemia, lupus, cancer, etc. I had never heard of such a thing. The doctor told me that as soon as it was verified that it was the meds to put an emergency alert bracelet on her saying " no floxins " , and make her repeat " floxins bottom out my platelets " until she could say it like her name & ss#. I know alot of us are prescribed at least (2) of the ones named above on a frequent basis for bronchitis, pneumonia, & other upper respiratory & lung infections. Don't want anyone to get hurt out there. Take Care........Connie ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Low, Low, Low Rates! Check out Yahoo! Guest guest
Thanks Connie. I had a muscular problem when I took Levequin but took it again and was ok up until the 6th day and then began hurting severely in my joints/muscles. My problem is that I'm allergic (full body rash) to PCN, sulfa, erythromycin, etc., so my choices are limited. What you described with your daughter was awful. The floxins can be really dangerous for some people. Your daughter's case is proof of that. Thanks for reminding us all to be careful.
