Guest guest
Hi Everybody! My doctor wrote my insurance company a pretty brutal, but truthful, letter of referral. BCBS of NC then called my PCP and said that I didn't need pre-approval for my surgery with Dr. , it is covered. My question is this... am I approved? Do I celebrate? Oh, I do have a second question. Has anyone else on this list had Dr. ? What do you think? Bizzell
Guest guest
, I would verify with your insurance company and or wait until you get it in writing, since I have seen people whose insurance companies said they didn't need pre-approval, but then denied payment after the fact as not medically necessary. Ask them if you need pre-determination, not pre-approval, as someone else had that specific issue, where it was called something else. Guest guest
Hi, I am not sure about the Insurance part, but I am having an open DS with Dr. on 6/12. As with most of us, we are partial to the Doctors we choose. I really like Dr. a lot. He is very informative and both my husband and I are very comfortable with him. I don't know if you joined his yahoo support group at gastricbypass-wsnc. We are a small group but very supportive of each other. There are both RNY and DS patients in the group. Guest guest
Dr. has very little actual laparoscopic experience and to my knowledge (approximately 50, including about 10 MGBs) and he has never trained under a DS doctor. I don't know how many DS's he has done but I would bet it is less than 5. He is willing to try most anything laparoscopically, apparently, although the other doctors usually do open surgeries for several years, then train for at least two years under two or more skilled lap surgeons before going lap on their own. When he did lap RNY's earlier in the year, at one point, he said that lap surgeries had too many complications so he wasn't going to do them at all anymore, then he resumed doing them anyway. ly, I cannot think of a reason to go to him when there are highly skilled lap surgeons who do the DS and the RNY who are well trained and who *never* did the MGB " on request " like has done. He was still doing the MGB until the insurance stink came up. I cannot have any faith in a doctor who cares so little about patient safety. He had also recruited his cousin, Lori Goco Kellum, to start doing the MGB. I realize he has done 2 of the people on this list and their outcomes were okay, but to me, the issue is one of honesty, training, and concern for patient safety, and he strikes out on all three in my book.
