Guest guest
Hi all, This probably sounds like a dumb question, but how do I make cooked (boiled) chopped spinach from fresh spinach? Just wash, hand-chop and boil? (I don't have a food-processer). I've come to live on frozen spinach (boiled, of course) as a basis for most of my meals. Now, suddenly my local grocery store's frozen spinach has been making me a little gassy and constipated (or so I was beginning to suspect), and then today I found several frozen pinto beans in the frozen spinach. Obviously they're being mixed together in the packing house. I'm pretty sure pinto beans are not legal? I've already had the experience of getting sick from our other local grocery store's frozen spinach -- that time we traced it to corn starch used in the packing process. So I may have to go all the way and figure out how to make my own! Ann

I would trim out the thickest veins (unless you're using baby leaf spinach.), stack the pieces, and then slice diagonally across a stack of leaves. If using the baby spinach, I'd remove the stems, stack the leaves 15-20 in a stack, and slice diagnonally across the leaves multiple times. Then cook as usual. Food processor? We SCDers don't need no stinkin' food processor! (I didn't have one until this year, when someone gifted me with one for my birthday. There are some things it's a time saver for... but there are other things, in fact a lot of things, for which I'd rather wash a single knife than the whole processor. <g> I don't have a dishwasher, either!) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
