Guest guest
Hi Pam.... Glad to hear you had a good time in the Bahamas. I've never been there but want to go someday. There were a few very cold mornings in Canada (around 20 degrees) while I was lying there on the ground at O-dark thirty waiting for the geese to fly that I was wishing I was somewhere like the Bahamas or Hawaii but Heck....I was still having a fun time. There is something about a cool, crisp morning laying in the blind thinking about life and all our tribulations while enjoying the environment that makes it all worthwhile !! I don't know if I ever mentioned it here on the site before but the major reason I do these annual hunting and fishing trips is to reward myself for staying clean and sober, smoke free and for working on myself a little at a time weight wise, etc. One thing for certain is if I was still using, drinking and smoking like I did I would more than likely be dead or incarcerated and not able to enjoy anything. I have not had a drink in almost 26 years (my AA birthday is the 29th of this month). I made the trip with four others this year. we were a little early for the geese in the area we hunted as they hadn't migrated down from the north in large numbers yet so we only managed to bag a dozen but the duck hunting on the prarrie potholes was nothing short of awesome. We bagged 89 ducks, 12 partridges and several sharptail grouse. All in all it was a great hunt, the numbers could have been better but then for me it's not all about the numbers but more about enjoying the experience and the environment. Its's probably a good thing that I feel that way becuase I don't think I could hit the broad side of a barn. Trust me those ducks didn;t have a thing to worry about from me. Guest guest
Gordy, thanks for sharing your story about Canada. I would love to go there some day. Maybe that will be my next trip. I can tell you that the Bahamas was wonderful, absolutely breath taking, relaxing and I got spoiled rotten. I did not want to come back but I am glad that I did. The beach was so great. Turqoise and you could see right through the water. I would go to bed at 3:00 am because I coul not sleep. The people were great and I desired to be out and about with them but they had to work. So I would go to be at 3:00 am and wake up to the sound of the ocean water washing up on the sand. I rose at 6:00 am. I spent a lot of time on the beach just reflecting back over my life and this weight loss journey I am on. I did not manage to lose any weight, I am still at 150 with 20 to go to goal. Not too bad for being 7 months post op but I did lose more inches. I am now in size 8 petite and some of those are slightly big. The music takes you to a place where you are carefree and lets not talk about the attentive men there. No matter what the reason..whether they truly adored you or if it was to get a free ticket to the US, I really did not care as I knew I had a husband and two boys to come home to. I just took in all that I could. To be pampered and just waited on regardless of what it was, was very unfamiliar but yet welcoming. I never got tired of hearing how beautiful I was. My nic name which was given to me by a very handsome Bahamian man was pebbles. He said I was beautiful as a flower, lightly scented with a fragrance of a spring/summer that could never end. That I was soft (not sure why he said that as nothing physical or anything remotely in that capacity took place) and that I had to be handled with care because he could tell I was delicate. Boy, that really blew my mind. I embraced it and life went on the beautiful island of the Bahamas. This was a great trip for my sister and I to bond. She is 27 and so very much beautiful. Her smile was so radiant and everyone commented about her smile. On this trip, I learned that I can drink alcohol without any problems so I indulged in the coconut rum a bit....well a lot. I figured its only a week and then back to normal. We are not drinkers in my house so I knew this was strictly a vacation thing. I did however realize that it took two sips only with the first drink and I was three sheets to the wind. My buzz quickly wore off. Pretty soon I was taking another drink, then another. My sister and I met some local Bahamian folk and we eat and toured and got around free of charge. It was great. One of the gentlemen there has a father that workes at the Atlantis on Paradise Island so he treated us to a night stay there and took us on tours of this tiny 21 mile island. I just had a blast and took about 4 rolls of film to record my memories of my trip. I am looking forward to returning to the Bahamas maybe next year or the year after since my husband and I are renewing our vows in 2007. It will be my wedding that I never had. I am so excited and have already started looking at invitations, location, cakes, flowers, gowns, etc. It will be in New York and anyone is more than welcome to come. As soon as I get the location narrowed down and a place reserved, I will let you all know. I would love to have my family here there to support me. I guess I have rambled enough. Take care and thanks for listening. Pam Marsh If you have not been to Nassau, you got to go. Guest guest
Hey Gordy! I know I don't post very much, but I have to congratulate you on your 26th birthday staying clean and sober. The only addictions I've had to deal with in my life have been food and cigarettes. I kicked the cigs to the curb 2 months ago and like everyone else here am still struggling with the food, but making a dent all the same. So, CONGRATS on the great job!
