Can I have refried beans? Pasta of any kind? chinese food?

It would only be once in a great while but can we have it all all?

I am only eating what I am told, but I am so bored with it already!

HELP!!!

Hi Cecelia,

There was an answer earlier...just not a good one for you. I'm a

preemie so I can't say much. But that answer was " not yet " .

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings...

Continue to follow your plan. At 12 weeks, you can

have the beans, etc. Chances are you are going to get

so bloated with the pasta you will soon realize the

little amount that your pouch can hold is not worth

the consumption. Just my opinion.

Try and hang in there Hon.

Chinese food has a lot of grease that it is cooked in. You are too soon

from surgery to let your pouch handle that.

Beans aren't supposed to be yet either since they are a bloater and

cause even more gas than you have had.

Pasta is not supposed to be eaten again from what I remember. It can

ball up and cause blockage in your pouch.

Call your nutritionalist as I stated earlier in a post to you, and look

at your binder. ALL the food no nos are listed.

Get creative and look at this as your NEW start not your deprived start!

What does " The Book " say about carbs like refried beans and pasta?

Everything in " The Book " is there for one reason: it works! Work it.

Cecilia,

CAN you have refried beans, pasta, etc.? Sure. Your pouch will

probably be able to handle it.

BUT the program tells us to avoid carbs. PERIOD. This is what works;

successful postops have lost their weight by staying off carbs. No

pasta, no break, no crackers chips rice beans ice cream cookies...even

" low carb " ones.

So if you want to lose your excess weight and keep it off, avoid

carbs. Use the first 18 months after surgery (the " honeymoon period " )

to form new food habits.

This means 60-75 grams of protein a day in 3 small meals, with nothing

in between. It also means drinking 64 ounces of water a day,

exercising at least 4x a week for 30-45 minutes, and taking vitamins

and supplements which I won't go into here.

Right after surgery you can't eat and drink all that but you can build

up to it gradually. If you're bored by the food, figure out ways to

make your protein meals more interesting. Look for recipes, cook new

things.

Of course, if you want to not lose weight quickly and effectively, or

you want to gain your weight back, do what's always worked for you in

the past: Entertain yourself with food.

Every now and then, eat refried beans, pasta, chips, crackers,

desserts. Snack whenever you feel you need to. Tell yourself that you

need frequent small meals because you have a tiny stomach. Add on a

few high-calorie protein shakes (because of course, you need protein)

with all kinds of fruit and cool whip added to them.

In no time, you'll be at a weight plateau; and soon after that, your

weight will come back on and you'll able to fit into all your old big

clothes.

Thanks for telling it like it is, Martha. I'm saving this message for when I get tempted in the future.

Martha

I appreciate your response and advice. I had written

back and stated that I was having a hard time and was

craving and not doing it. I guess I get confused at

times because I hvae been on this site for about a

year now and some of those that have alot of time

befoe me write about what they eat which has included

corn dogs, coffee, popcorn pasta etc. So as you see It

is a little confusing and I am trying to do what is

healthiest for me. I will ask my nutritionist when I

see her two weeks away. Again thanks for the advice

and I will continue to do what is best for me.
