Guest guest
Hi Eileen, Welcome to the list! Many people make the trek to Spain for 2 reasons. First is that is where Dr Baltasar is located. He is a fine surgeon and one of the leading pioneers of the DS surgery. Also one of the most experienced, second perhaps only to Dr Hess. Second is the cost of having this surgery in Spain. Many surgeons/hospitals in the US will not even accept self-pay patients. Those that do generally run $25-30 thousand dollars for the procedure and 4-5 day hospital stay. God forbid there be even the least of complications and the price can quickly surpass that of most houses! While I am not a Baltasar patient, I've heard quotes on this list for $10,500 which includes both the surgery plus nine days of hospital stay (they give you a refund if you are able to leave sooner!) Even adding the cost of airfare and staying in a local hotel for a week or two afterwards, the cost is still well below the US. Maybe it has to do with our lawsuit crazy society? Dunno... There are some on this list who are Baltasar patients and they can fill you in better, I'm sure. If my insurance did not cover this, I would take a " vacation " to Spain in a heartbeat! Adios!
