Guest guest
Hi everyone.. Well it's been a week since my g.bypass and was wondering if this is all normal..I feel very good I am walking and drinking my water. I went in to the hosp. at 261,came home at 265 and know weigh 250.It just seems like alot of weight to lose.I am sick of soup, yogurt, pudding and all the rest.I tried a scrambled egg and it went down just fine.granted it was small bites and lots of chewing,I am sure it was smaller swallows than cottage cheese. My stomach makes all sorts of noises after I eat,but getting better.I eat about 4oz a meal, and a protein drink.oh and a sf Popsicle.. Am I normal? Thanks for any input , on my way to the galt flea market for some walking exercise,ok ok and maybe a few bargains..Thanks again.. Barbara C __________________________________ Yahoo! Guest guest
You are normal! Congrats on feeling good so soon after surgery. Obviously you are getting in enough walking and water. Just don't be alarmed when you suddening feel tired at week two. It is a weird feeling and you really don't feel like doing anything. Be careful too when you go to get up, I would feel faint, see the stars and all that. Are you sure you are eating 4 oz meals? That doesn't sound right at a week out. I am 12 weeks out now and am still eating 3 oz meals, but some days I can't eat as much as others of that full 3 ozs. The weight loss seems about right though. You do drop a lot fast at the beginning like that. Don't be alarmed. I lost 17 that first week myself. I about fell over from shock! If you are one that tolerates eggs, then more power to you. I could handle them as well and eat one every day still. Great source of protien and it is fun to add other things to it, once you can advance to the next stage. Keep up the good work! Guest guest
Hi Barbara C. I had my surgery 51/2 months ago, when I went in the hospital I was 228 and the day I came home I was 235. By the next week I was 212, and yes at first it is very, very, fast or at least it was for me. I only eat my 2 oz meals until the doctor told us to go up to 4 oz meals. I was able to get to goal weight in 5 months. I did all the water and popcicles also. I walked every day and increased every time I could. I now walk 1 to 2 miles every day and 4 to 5 miles on Sunday. I also had all the stomach sounds, I also went through times of diarrhea, the doctor said this was all fine. They did make me stay an extra week on stage 2, but I survived. Just remember do things as the book says, don't eat and drink at the same time. Space your meals 4 hours apart, don't over eat and most of all remember the easiest time to get the most weight off is in the first 6 months, so really stay on track. I started this journey at orientation weighing 270, size 24 pants and now I'm 148, size 8 pants, and I'm off the cpap machine, asthma is doing great, walking every day helps my fybromyalgia, and arthritis, but getting going is tough some days. My reflux has improved not gone. I have a bad knee, but it doesn't hurt as bad as when I was carrying the weight and I have screws in my feet, were they where broken and wouldn't heel so pieces of my hips were put in with screws so the bones would heel. These are just some things, but I use to take 19 different medicines a day, not counting vitamins, and now I'm down to 3 medicines and my vitamins and only 1 inhaler. I love the health, look and new me. Keep on track and you will be amazed. I also love Galt Flea Market, kind of funny that's where I went my second week home to get exercise and bargains. Guest guest
Hi Kay, Thanks for responding. to measure my food I still use the very small cups they gave me in the hospital. For the first meal at the hospital they said to measure out 3 of them, from the foods in front of me.I assume thoes were oz's. For lunch today I just had a 1/2 cup of soup.4oz's. Do the little cups measure 1oz?. Thanks again for responding..I hope everything is well with you. 12 weeks out how are you handling other foods now? BarbaraC --- specialkmix2000 specialkmix2000@...> wrote: > You are normal! Guest guest
Heh Kristie, I live in Sacramento..I came back with a couple of things.I did see some really nice comfortors with curtains to match..We are still pondering them. The flea market isn't what it use to be. On Tuesday everything is new. Then on Wednesday they have the vegtables and new items along with the used stuff people are trying to get rid of..There's less used items these days.I use to get really good deals.Talk to you later BarbaraC --- hollotwomn@... wrote: > Barbara, > Where do you live? Guest guest
Hi Barbara C, I went to smart and final and they actually carry a 2 oz plastic cup that you get like 200 for about $4 and that's what I've used until the doctor said to increase to for ozs. Then I just double it, I take them with me every where, that's my bowls and when I'm not where I can measure they come in handy. I know it's not much but 2 ozs is what you should be on until you 3 months out, but you can talk to the nutritionist. Good luck and keep up the good work. Guest guest
Hi Barbara, I guess I am still confused on your oz's. At 12 weeks out you are supposed to eat 1/2 cup. Maybe with it being liquid still they think it is fine that you have so much? Oh well. we are all different. If you aren't getting sick from so much in your pouch at a time, I guess you can handle it. Where did you have your surgery/ who was your surgeon? I was at Richmond facility with Dr Baggs. I can tolerate all foods I have tried so far. No slimes or upchucking at all. I super chew my food though and make sure I don't drink water for at least an hour after I eat and a good 10 mintues before I eat. I have tried a few stage IV foods, I like lettuce and green beans. I tried black beans and they are still too gasy for me. Chicken is good, but I get the kind in a can from Costco packed in water and mix it up like chicken salad so it is more moist. I eat lots of fish, salmon and halibut, and shrimp basically. Egg for breakfast and some cheese. I am getting braver to try more things as they are all still agreeing with me. Thanks for asking! Guest guest
Hi Kay..I really appreciate your response..I had my surgery at Fremont with Dr.Dutta..In the hospital they started me off with 3oz's.I was going through some of the papers they gave me and one said to gradually go to 6oz's.It didn't say in what period of time.So I think I will stick with 4 ozs.Everything seems to go down ok and no sick feeling.I am trying to follow some of the sample menus they gave me.Stage 3 looks like they increase a little.I won't have my Dr.appt until the 21st because I am unable to make the one on the 7th.Have you ever tried to call the nutritionist?.Some of the info in the binder missing some information I think.I appreciate all your help. Guest guest
Hi Barbara, You know, you are right about info missing in the binder and leaving it up to " us " to figure out leaves a bit to be desired. I am one that follows the rules, but if half of them are missing....it makes me uneasy. I have talked with the nutritionalist at Richomnd facility a few times and the advice they had to offer on the constipation wasn't what was helpful. I finally called the advise nurse for the bariatric dept and THAT is where I got the help I needed. Beth was able to help on timing for when to take all the suppliments though, so that was good. Dr Baggs told me at my month follow up appt to eat as close to 2-3 oz a meal for as long as I could tolerate it since I will lose more weight that way sooner? So far I have tried 3 oz a meal and when you get on more dense food, it is harder to eat all of that. You will see! Last night I tried ground turkey meat for the first time and it was great! So nice to get away from the fish and chicken for a day! Whew! But I couldn't eat the entire 3 oz at all, more like 2? As you get further out you are going to see how much easier it is with your recovery. Sounds like you are doing good though so far! Keep plugging away! It is also fun to watch the clothes you have become too big for you! I started out as a 28/30 and just put on some 16's today! Just wait and watch the new you transform! It is FUN! Take care, Kay 336/290/226/? 6/28/05- surgery Dr Baggs- First day of the rest of my life! > > > > > Hi everyone..
