Hi-

I am in 4th week of SCD -- its hard, but I getting used to it! One way I

overcome the rather bland SCD food compared to the spicy Indian food that I was

having in my previous life is by photogenic arrangement of the food on my plate

:)

I have gotten progressively better -- I think SCD keeps things under control,

but I have also increased my Lialda and I take Rowasa now -- with less or nearly

no bleeding.

I had introduced Spinach last week but didn't do well.. But I had green beans 4

days ago and butternut squash 2 days ago, and I have been doing fine for the

past 4 days.. Like Marilyn mentioned in one of her posts, I try a new food for 2

consecutive days, and look for reactions.

I tried (rather foolishly?) last night little bit avocado with cilantro and

lemon, and I saw blood this morning after 4 days. When I had avocado mixed and

grilled in beef patty, I did ok.

Is fresh Cilantro or avocado bad in the initial stages? I love cilantro :(

Thanks,

Andy.

Andy- it could be either. I don't do well with avocados. Or it could have been

the raw cilantro. The only way to know is to stop both and introduce them one at

a time.

Andy,

Just because cilantro might make you sick now doesn't mean it will later.  When I started SCD I put lemon juice on EVERYTHING (I hate chicken, and the lemon juice was the only thing that would help me get it past my taste-buds and down my throat!)  I mean, of course, juice from real lemons -- not from a bottle.  But I know some people don't do well with lemon juice right away.  I didn't do well with raw vegetables at first -- well, actually not for the first year.  But I did always put cilantro in my soup.  I wouldn't eat the cilantro itself (my husband, from Nicaragua, just dumps a whole handfull of cilantro into his soup, stem and all, so it kind of looks like spinich when its cooked -- I would just eat the broth, meat and carrots, and leave the cilantro in the pot, but I'd get the wonderful flavor of it in my soup).  Now (getting towards the end of my second year) I can eat raw vegetables, including the cilantro.  So my point is, if it doesn't work for you now, that doesn't mean it won't ever work for you.

And that's a good point. You could cook with it in a spice bag or something to

get the

flavor. Just don't eat it yet. (Though maybe you could handle it cooked,

though not

raw.)

Mara, who also loves cilantro.

Pre-SCD, I would marinate overnight chicken in oil or juice with a ton of spices then rinse it lightly just to get the spices off before I baked it.  This was for fajitas.  Full flavor without all the strong spice.

I couldn't do lemon juice or vinegar but if I put it on the food right before cooking it, you get the flavor without the acid--it cooks off.  Good way to broil fish in the beginning.

originally scd 12/05; currently back on the generic Repliva 21/7 so illegal anyway...was doing great or in the right direction until I had to redo the iron pills.
