Guest guest
It's funny how you can build something up in your mind to be a big problem and it turns out to be nothing at all. I was concerned that my doctor would not refer me for the bypass so I've been reading everything I could and marshalling my arguments. I went in today and said I would like to be referred and he said "I think that's reasonable". Then turned around to the computer and put in the request. ACK. All that anxiety for nothing. I guess the preparation is good for though, maybe it will help for the psych appointment. Is there anything you can think of that I can do prepare for the psych? The idea makes me nervous. Guest guest
Pam, pray about the appointment and not stress. They just want to make sure that you have support because it is life altering and a lot of emotional baggage that you are not aware that you have will come out. Second, they want to make sure that you understand what you are about to undergo. Third, they want to rule out any dedencies (drug, alcohol or eating additions) so that you can get help now. They want you to recognize that if for some reason you don't get approved that you are not going to go into some deep self deprevation mode and use food as a crutch. Be honest and answer the questions honestly. Answer direct and don't say anything that would cause them to think that there is some things that you are not disclosing to them. Just be yourself. You are going to be fine. My psych apt. took 20-30 minutes. The one thing that stood out to me to this day (I am 7 months post op) is the question that she asked me prior to ending the apt. She asked me that if I did not get approved how would that effect me. I told her that I was certainly not going to roll up and die or get depressed that I would continue just as I had for the past 14 years to do something and that maybe I would find that one nich that would help me. She said she was so proud of me and that was that. Relax and just like I said, be honest. Remember these psychs will know what you really feel and are saying even when you don't say it. Best of luck to you!
