Guest guest
Reece, Although I personally did not have surgery with Dr. Rabkin, I had a friend who did. His office is VERY busy. He is one of the best surgeons out there that perform the DS. I am sure you will have equal success with either one. I am sure that Delphine is overwelmed due to the high demand for DS surgeries these days. Hang in there! Kim B. Dr. Anthone/USC DS-Open 4/18/01 -52lbs. Guest guest
Dear list, What a great resource I have found with you guys! After doing lots of online research I have decided to either go with Dr. Ren or Dr. Rabkin and the lap BPD/DS. Dr. Ren's office has been very helpful and very nice in scheduling a consultation. Dr. Rabkin's office has been curt and is not returning email or phone calls. Should I take that as a bad sign? Of is Delphine just overwhelmed with queries? =) Also, what was the average time between consultation to scheduled surgery? By the grace of God, I don't have to worry about insurance to pay for this thing. Feedback is appreciated! Best to you all, Reece ----------------- Reece Manley Dallas, TX www.reece.manley.net 6'0 " - 402lbs. Pre-Op
Guest guest
Hi Reece, I wouldn't take the response (or lack of) from Dr. Rabkins office as a bad sign. I have been dealing with them for a little over 2 weeks now and have also found a bump or two in talking with them. However, I do know that they are just swamped right now due to a recent show on Evening Magazine. I sent an e-mail the day after the first half of their show and I got a response the very next day from Delphine. I then needed to submit my insurance information to them and they said it would take about 2 weeks to process that. Bruce (somebody who works part time for them) gave me a call a few days after my information was submitted to find out if I had any questions. Then Joanie (another person who works part time for them) gave me a call this past Monday asking for my insurance information again (seems that they have WAY too much paper lying around there! hahaha). And then yesterday Bruce called me again (seems he forgot that he had already spoken to me....maybe that was supposed to be your call!). But I do have to say that they have all been very nice to me and have taken the time to answer any questions that I may have. I was told that consultation appointments are already into July at this point....very busy people. Don't give up Reece. From everything that I've heard, Dr. Rabkin is an excellent surgeon. I have yet to have a consultation with him though as I am not fortunate enough to not have to wait for my insurance company. Guest guest
Reece, for what its worth, I have found Dr. Ren's entire staff to be exceptionally kind, competant and responsive. It was four weeks between my first call to them and my consultation, but that is because Dr. Ren was at a conference (one week) and I had a project at work (another week). At my consult I was given a surgery date for two months later, again due to a scheduling conflict (mine). She has a web site: http://thinforlife.med.nyu.edu/ which has been helpful. There is also a list on yahoo of her patients. on this list can help you with that - she is also a sweet person who is quite responsive, and she's a post-op of the Dr.'s! I wish you smooth sailing in your surgery no matter what Doctor you choose. Guest guest
Reece, I am a pre-op patient of Dr. Ren's. I, too, found her and her office staff thorough, patient, and kind. If I had questions and e-mailed Dr. Ren, she would reply within 24 hr. Between my first call in March to our consult, one week. Another week to see her nutritionist. The only reason, I believe, that the wait for surgery was 3 months was because I needed to wait til school was over in June. I met one of her patients who went from consult to surgery in less than 5 weeks! Marcia >
Guest guest
Dr Rabkin is in Washington DC and made a presentation today to the ASBS. I expect that some, if not all, of his medical staff are there also. Back to business as usual next week. That's where just about all the DS surgeons are.. and a lot of RNY surgeons also. in Seattle ----- Original Message ----- > I wouldn't take the response (or lack of) from Dr. Rabkins office as a bad > sign. I might have seen some of the top docs and heard some of the new things to come out of the conference. Maybe could have got some literature. I wish I had gone. Guest guest
I met one of her patients who went from consult to surgery in less than 5 weeks! " ::::waving to Marcia:::: That was me! In fact, I went from scheduling my consult to surgery in less than five weeks. What a rush!! I can only echo how pleased I have been with Dr. Ren and her staff. I went through a difficult period of nausea and can honestly say they have been even more concerned about me after the surgery than before. It's nice to hear from them just because they are thinking of you. Barbi
