Guest guest
Did anybody see the news report last night on channel 5 about obesity? I know you've all heard of the tax on cigarettes that was applied in order to " curb " the smokers. One doctor mentioned that he thinks that there should be an extra tax on high fat and high sugar items....a junk food tax! Is that not the most rediculous thing you've ever heard?!?!? How is that going to help anybody? I mean, when you think about it....the tax on tabacco products hasn't made people quit. What makes them think that people will quit buying junk food? Not to mention....a lot of us that are overweight aren't overweight entirely because we eat junk food anyway. Please...if they want to help us....why don't they come up with something that would actually work!?!? :-) M Palmer (Phone) (Fax) kpalmer@... Guest guest
That is so stupid. Not everyone that eats junk food has weight issues either. My sister said something once that this food thing is probably worse in some ways. We can eliminate drugs and cigarettes, alcohol and heal or be in remission. We don't need it to live. But with food, you have to eat to live, so its much more complex than simply not eating junk food. How about putting a tax on thin people who think they have better will power and who think we are weak and disgusting and make them fork over money for being thin which would be sent to us heavy people that can't get our surgery covered with insurance....LMAO Just as silly...LOL " Palmer, " kpalmer@...> wrote: >Did anybody see the news report last night on channel 5 about obesity? Guest guest
Maine had a junk food tax. I'm not sure if thats what they called it but anything that came in small or single serving sizes, chips candy ect. was taxed, as the rest of our food items were not. I believed it has been repealed but we had it for a couple of years. Pretty dumb huh! Guest guest
To the credit of Channel 5, they did recently do a fantastic 2-night special on TV specifically devoted to the duodenal switch and several of Dr Rabkin's patients. It was wonderfully done and something so many of us have been wanting to see for many years now. Original DGB/DS 1/11/2000 Revision of DS stomach 5/7/2001 down over 140 pounds
Guest guest
Yes, that was the Evening Magazine that I was talking about to answer somebody's question about why Dr. Rabkin's office is taking so long to respond to him. They are so swamped right now because of that show. I wasn't actually slamming Channel 5....they just report the news. I was talking about the idiots that they interviewed. hahaha > Re: News Report on Channel 5 (California > Bay Area) > > To the credit of Channel 5, they did recently do a fantastic 2-night > special on TV specifically devoted to the duodenal switch and several > of Dr Rabkin's patients. Guest guest
Governments don't tax things so that people will stop a particular behavior. If the government was serious about changing people's behavior, they would ban a product, not tax it. Do you think that the government wants people to stop smoking? No way. They get too much revenue from the sale of cigarettes. I think the next product that the government will attax (pun intended), will be alcohol. After they have taxed that to death, they will come after fatty foods. The reason that the government is so successful in attacking certain industries such as tobacco, or alcohol, is that the majority of people don't use either. For example, if 24% of adults smoke, that means that 76% don't. That is why you can't smoke in public anymore. I even seen an advertisement on bus the other day telling people not to smoke in their own cars. Who cares? 76% of the adult population don't..... The problem with fatty foods, is who do they go after? Do they go after chips and snack type foods, or do they go after Mcs and Jack-n-the-Box? Their problem here is that over 50% of the public is overweight and the percentage is going up all the time. How many people are going to be willing to pay an extra $.25 per hamburger at the fast food restaurant? Not many. I do believe that there are people even now, plotting to go after the food industry. Just look at these type of " News " shows. They report every little insignificant report, never check on the sources or look for rebuttal, just go with what will sound good and alarming. Oh well, what are we to do? I feel better just getting this off my chest. Thanks for reading.
