Guest guest
OK Gang, It's getting close to Thanksgiving, and I know that everyone is going to be trying to get it together to have or go to someone's for a huge turkey dinner - with all the fixins. That means we will all do too much--and then end up down for a while to recoop. So, how about checking in-- and sharing what is coming up, and how you plan on coping. It's important to have a strategy- and follow it. I for one, am going to my parents for Thanksgiving. They only live a couple of miles from me, and my younger sister and her husband will cook the dinner. It will be an evening with both my sisters and their husbands and my son and my nephew. I don't know if the boy's girlfriends will join us-- or if they will be in hiding. I'm planning on buying a pumpkin pie, instead of trying to remember to cook one- so that will make my end of the deal simple. My biggest challenge is that my younger sis's husband is pure "bar-room" humor, and about 10 minutes of that is 9 minutes too long. Oh well, I'll get to run interference, and I'll find a quiet spot to read a book. That's my idea of a good day anyway. Do remember to send your home addresses to at TOPDAT@... Guest guest
i have not been in touch for a long time. I'm having a new flare in my eye, not soo bad but frustrating all the same. My ophthamologist didn't even dialate my eye when I went in, just told me to use the drops. Guess he's getting bored, same old, same old. My daughter , who is 22 and a full time college student, lives at home and goes to school and works part time. She is having a lymph node removed from her neck on the Wed. before Thanksgiving, so I will be having dinner at my house. I usually do anyway. I plan to keep it simple but with nervous energy, that will probably change. This way, my daughter can still enjoy the holiday and have the comfort of her room to retreat to when she's had enough. Please keep a prayer reserved for her. I think it's okay, I really do, but lurking in the back of my mind is too much knowledge. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL!!! Guest guest
Hi Im going to my inlaws with the family. My sister in law will be their with her family. My inlaws do all the cooking and baking . We usually have to bring beer or something easy like that! The only thing is, like you ,there is one flaw. It gets quite stressful when everyone starts bickering at each other. It gets loud and very uncomfortable. I stay out of it and hide and count down the minutes until we can leave! Guest guest
Hi everyone, Well, I am still having the Thanksgiving dinner at my house again this year but my four daughters and my daughter-in-law will be cooking most of it. I will put the turkey on (with hubby's help) but that is about all......I plan to make coleslaw on Wednesday and will heat up the sweet potatoes just before serving the turkey and that is all I plan on doing. The girls all wanted to cook and I know I cannot do it all anymore so I am letting them. I will probably let one of them cook the turkey next year..........my family has a LOT to be thankful for this year. I almost did not make it when I was in the hospital (the family was called in 4 times) but I did make it and while I am not back to normal yet, I have come a long way. I had to learn to talk, walk, eat, and all that stuff all over again, so I have done quite well. Also, we got our newest great-grandchild on Monday, November 13th and she is perfect! thank God for that! So, now I will have 26 here for dinner - including myself and hubby. I could possibly have 2 more but not sure. Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! do not overdo and sending special thoughts and prayers that everyone will feel well! Guest guest
H Everyone ( and thanks to Tracie for checking up on us! ) I have been in a battle with pneumonia. In and out of the Drs office and on lots of medications ( 3 different antibiotics ) and am finialy starting to pull myself back up again. I have to say my doctors have handled everything well. (seem to have my ducks 0pps I mean doctor.. all in a row!) PA in my family practice that I have not been really fond of sat down and told me not to let this get me down...keep living my life and the doctors would stay on top of any illnesses all the meds caused. WOW! Actually had a nice ER Doctor today too..took me in staff room and showed me my xrays and really talked one on one. I know we don't often get to tell good stories about docs so thought I let you know. Of course this means my Remicade has been put back a while..it will be 9 weeks ( from 6 ) when I am able to get my next treatment. So having symptoms come back. I usually have the whole Thanksgiving spread at my house ... I'd rather do the cooking but don't really know what we are doing this year. My late husband and I would cook together and have large Thanksgiving dinner..sure miss him. I got really worried the other day because my daughter offered to have dinner at her house...I thought for sure I must be dying ;)as it's just not Thanksgiving if not at my house. I live in the house I grew up in. We gutted and renovated and it is just where Holidays are at. So I figured I must look pretty bad if they are even considering having anywhere else. It was a nice offer but I think we will just keep it very simple this year and still do it here...and find that store bought buys are not so bad after all. Since being sick I have been watching tooo many cooking shows and am learning all the shortcuts! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I hope I can manage to express to my children/ Gchildren the real meaning of Thanksgiving and how Thankful I am. Thanksgiving is also the 25th anniversity of my having breast cancer..so this year is special TTFN Ruth > > OK Gang, > It's getting close to Thanksgiving, and I know that everyone is going to be > trying to get it together to have or go to someone's for a huge turkey dinner - > with all the fixins. > That means we will all do too much--and then end up down for a while to > recoop. > So, how about checking in-- and sharing what is coming up, and how you plan > on coping. Guest guest
Hi Ruth,It is nice that Tracie checks on us. She cares and that's yet another thing that I'm thankful for, especially this time of the year when we count our blessings. This group has changed my life ( too...) for the better. I smiled when I read that you watch cooking shows. I too do this not b/c I cook (I can't right now) but I enjoy remembering what it felt like to do this. I used to love baking and cooking new dishes for my family. Sometimes I will see something and think about how good I felt back then when I wasn't sick. There is so much truth to taking good health for granted...I sure did. It was good to hear about your positive experiences with your doctors and PA. You will be in my prayers. You are a survivor and 25 years is a wonderful celebration. May God continue to bless you during your next 25.Blessings,Beckyolehomepla wrote: H Everyone ( and thanks to Tracie for checking up on us! ) I have been in a battle with pneumonia. Guest guest
I hope each and everyone have a Blessed Thanksgiving, sometimes it doesn’t seem like it, but really we have much to be thankful for, I am thankful for all of you! We are staying home, my husband does most the cooking when we have a big gathering, his brother and family, wife and three kids will be coming up to join us, she is an excellent cook and always brings great food too, my biggest thing is getting the house cleaned up before they come, my brother in law is allergic to dogs and we have two, being around them isn’t too bad, but if I don’t have all the dog hair vacuum up and dusted away then he will have problems, my kids are home from school on Wed. so will have to put them to work too! Take care and God Bless each and everyone of you wonderful blessings in my life. Marla From: Neurosarcoidosis [mailto:Neurosarcoidosis ] On Behalf Of tiodaat@...
