Guest guest
Gordy,It occurs to me that you've been coming to meetings and posting on this list for quite a while. By now I think you've seen conclusive proof by now that (1) Morbidly obese people don't/can't lose over 100 pounds " on their own " (i.e., without surgery) and keep it off, and (2) The surgery does a good job of helping us do these two things. In a meeting recently you said you were still 'considering' whether or not to have weight loss surgery. What will it take for you to make up your mind? And when are you gonna do it? Or are you just coming around to pick up girls?HahahaMartha
Guest guest
Martha.... I'm just here for the girls ! I thought everybody knew that. Maybe I'll get lucky like Tim did and find true love. seriously though, I have never discounted having the surgery that's why I make reference to " on hold " . I still am not 100% certain yet and until I am, I will continue to try the old fashioned way. wouldn't you agree this should be the course for anyone who is not 100% certain. I hope that no one here has objections. especially you Martha, to me continuing to get support from the site and the groups because I have made that decision. I would hate to decide later that now is the time only to find out that the support that you so eloquently talk about all the time here was not available then. Thanks for your thoughts... Guest guest
Gordy, I think you are doing the best thing and I hope and pray that you will stay around until you make the decision to have or to not have the surgery and then stick around. You have to be certain with anything especially something like this. Be very proud of yourself as I know that you are and continue hanging in there. Guest guest
Gordy, If you feel you're getting support from this group, by all means stay. I know you don't think I was telling you to leave. I'm just trying to light a fire under your butt. I think most of us would agree that trying to lose over 100# " the old fashioned way " doesn't work. Even those of us with iron-clad discipline haven't been able to lose it and keep it off. And I know you aren't 100% sure about surgery. I was never 100% sure. I had doubts, fears, and one friend who insisted it was a bad idea. I don't know if anyone is capable of 100% certainty on this. But while you're waiting to be 100% certain, I hate to see you spend your precious human life in deteriorating health, unable to enjoy the things you could do if you were thinner. As we get older and sicker, our risks for surgery increase. Like I said, just tryin' to light a fire... Martha
Guest guest
Martha.... I did get the impression you were tying to give me a little nudge and I appreciate your thoughtfulness. The thought of having the surgery is never far from my mind. As far as getting support from the group, you may recall the last time I saw you in ez I mentioned that I was struggling. That hasn't changed but neither has my resolve to give my best effort on the 1200 calorie plan at least until it's absolutely not working any longer. You probably noticed that I've been posting more this past week. I didn't post for awhile and became complacent with my program so I've been reaching out the best way I know how to try and get back on track. I appreciate your support and I respect your opinions so if you feel that it's necessary to get your matches out again please don't hesitate. Guest guest
Hey Gordy, Nice to see you back and active here again. It took me a year and a half to get off the pot and take care of getting surgery. Every one is different and they have to accept what is happening to them at different rates. As long as you aren't hiding from the truth, which it doesn't look to be the case here, then go ahead and make your mind up on your own time! For me, it was once I was put on meds for high blood pressure and diabetes that pushed me into knowing I had to have surgery. It was no longer an option, I was going to die from the complications of the diseases if I didn't do it. I am sure you have heard these stories time and time again. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, that you aren't the only one that has really thought long and hard on this permanent surgery. I have to say though, now that the hard part is done, I am so glad I finally made my mind up, and wish I had done so sooner! Guest guest
Martha losing the weight the old fashion way and keep is off has not been successful and neither has doing the weight loss surgery for some either. So I suppose that Gordy is just really considering what is best for him. We just have to keep Gordy lifted and supported and when the time comes, he will either continue to do it the way he is doing it or he will take a leap of faith and join us on the other side. Until you take the leap Gordy, be faithful as you have been and I am here to support you as much as I can.
