I’ve been on the SCDiet for 20 mths now. I have

suffered from C. all my life. The diet has improved things for me: my C.

problems, as well as digestion and intestinal issues, and GERDS. I now have a

BM every day, without the help of any kind of laxative (SCD legal) or

medication. I know that this will only get better as my gut heals more.

It’s worth the try that’s for sure!

Hi there,

Just wanted to let you know I also suffer from C and never had any D.  I was diagnosed with Crohn's in May.  I began the diet 9/1/09.  Although my BM's are getting better I still have C but I understand that the diet takes time to get things working properly again.  I am 100% commited to SCD, it has changed my life.  I have totally changed my view of diet and what I am putting in my body.  Although it is still early for me, I don't think I will ever go off of SCD.  My body is changing for the better and I can't wait to see how much better it will get from here.  I encourage to take the plunge and join us!

I know there are others on this board with C predominant symptoms. The point is to heal your gut and SCD can do this, regardless of whether the symptoms are D or C. Welcome.PJ >> I was recently diagnosed with mild chronic (likely Chrohn's) colitis and am now on Asacol and antibiotics. My symptoms started in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and everyone attributed them to normal pregnancy discomforts, such as hemorrhoids. After my symptoms didn't get any better 3 months after having the baby I saw a gastroenterologist and eventually got this diagnosis. After getting the diagnosis and doing some research I stumbled upon Elaine Gottschall's book and read success stories of people who have been helped by SCD. However it seems that Elaine's recommendations are targeted to people with diarrhea as the predominant symptom...while I'm struggling with constipation for the most part. I want to be optimistic and give this diet a chance but would feel better if I knew that it helped others with constipation-predominant colitis. I would appreciate any and all advice!

C. was definitely my main sympton, not D.  I remember having the same reaction as you:  can this diet work for me if I don't have the normal D symptoms everyone talks about?  It did work for me.  But it took a LONG time.  I saw improvement right away, but the healing is still happening.  I'm at about 21 months now on SCD, and things have gotten enormously better.  I certainly encourage you to try it.  If you do, and questions arise, just email the group.  I did the diet in place of medicine, so I think my experience is different from those who've tried diet and medicine at the same time, but it should help either way.
