Guest guest
Tamara, Are you able to attend the PE periods yourself where you can monitor Joey. This way you can allow him to join in UNTIL you feel that he needs to sit the rest of the session out.? He will learn when his body is telling him that he needs to rest but in the meantime it is up to you to monitor this. My daughter has just turned 11 years and can only do so much in this field and has learnt to read her body. I have taken time to get to know her teachers well so they do not think of me as just an over protective mother and have photo-copied material about Mito for them to read so they can better under-stand the condition. Listen to your mother's instinct and go with that. Put Joey and what is right for Joey first. Hugs, . To particapate in P.E. or not?? In Kindergarden Hello! I hope everyone is doing well.I am getting all of the paper work for Joey to start Kindergarden here in about 4 weeks. I must say this is one of the hardest things I have ever done.I am being torn between trying Joey in P.E. or not.Joey can walk and can run for just a short distance, usually falls several times, then gets the tremors. I'm afraid if he does P.E he will be done for the rest of the day. I have watched then several times in P.E. with my older boys and I really think MOST of the time they do stuff I know Joey can not do. Such as hoolah hoop, jump roap, balance beam or even just climbing.I really hate to hold him back from P.E, but it would break all of our hearts to see him have to sit out. I know many of you have gone through this and I need all the help I can get. How do we know when to hold him back, when I know he would really enjoy it?Thank you!!!TamaraPlease contact mito-owner with any problems or questions. Guest guest
Is there any way you can restrict/limit activities on his IEP? Maybe if you talk to the actual teacher, you can give them a better understanding of his abilities. If there is a common understanding to how much, and what he can do he should be able to participate to his potential. I would probally try to avoid completely taking him out of PE, because he may feel left out. Although, if you do not have a good relationship with the teacher, and you feel they will not listen to his needs, I would not want to do anything that could potentially cause any harm to him. Hopefully the school will be very understanding and Joey can have a fun time with his peers, and still be safe.

Guest guest
Tamara- If you feel that Joey may use up all his energy for the remainder of the day, then perhaps you could work something where he could do a different activity. From my own personal experience, I was the child who had to sit out mostly when everyone had PE, due to asthma/exhaustion. It isn't fun to sit and watch others, while you play with pebbles. Eventually I was able to take another class with a doctor's note. It worked out great, because the PE teacher could devote her full attention to the class and I was able to enjoy something fun. Good luck. Ann > Hello! I hope everyone is doing well. > I am getting all of the paper work for Joey to start Kindergarden > here in about 4 weeks.
