Making cultured butter question

Hello.

I would like to make some cultured butter. So, I was thinking that I could just buy some butter from the store and then let it ferment for 24 hours at room tempurature with some whey added to it.

I've never heard of anyone making cultured butter this way, but is this possible?

I'm not sure this would work. Butter left at room temperature for 24 hours

wouldn't really ferment. The only way I know of to make cultured butter is to

make cultured (or sour) cream from heavy whipping cream and then make the butter

from that.
