Guest guest
Dear Patty, I am sorry to hear that your RNY results were a disappointment. I am still a pre-op looking to have the DS, hopefully in Spain. Though I cannot speak as a post-op, I would like to suggest that you email(unless you already have) other DS and RNY dr.'s tell them your story and get their feedback. You are right it is not your fault. Hopefully whether you were a cash patient or your health insurance paid they should cover a revision. I wish you the absolute best and please keep in touch! Things will get better, a BMI36 Spain-bound 5' 5.75" Hi Everyone, new to this group, thinking of revising to the switch, need info from the pros. My name is Patty and on 12/27/00, I had a RNY.My doctor, unbenownst to me, only bypassed 75CM of intestine in thesurgery. On the day of surgery, I was 217 @ 5'2". Today, 6/7/01, Iam only at 192. I lost the first 12lbs in the hospital for sevendays and the rest I had to WORK off with exercise & protein etc.I feel that my years of yo-yo dieting have slowed my metabolism downso much that I need the malabsorption in the switch procedure. I'vehad an upper GI and my Dr. says my pouch is fine but I feel I havebeen able to eat too much from day one. I have never dumped orthrown up from eating-so I don't feel that I've been eating toomuch. I know that's what he thinks but it's not so!!! The bottomline is that if I could have gotten a handle on my weight throughtraditional methods, I wouldn't have gone through this painfulinitial operation. Has anyone gone from a proximal (if you couldeven call it that) to the switch and had much better success? Itwould be easier to stay with my doctor for insurance reasons but hesays he will only try to decrease my pouch more, not bypass anyintestines. Do you think that I should take the add'l risks of notbeing approved insurance wise and go to someone else for therevision, someone who will do the switch? Or have you guys had theswitch done for other reasons such as dumping syndrome etc-those thathad revisions that is.Also, when trying to pin my insurance down on what specific ops theypay for, they just kept saying the gastric bypass. Does this qualifyas a gastric bypass, or at least a type, that would get past thehawkeyes of the insurance people? Any info/feedback I can get willbe better than what I have now. I know I appear to be a patheticallyfailed RNY patient but I don't think it's my fault. How could I haveless control over food than people that have even way more weight tolose? Anyway, thanks for listening. I appreciate it. Patty----------------------------------------------------------------------
