First of all welcome to the group. It is nice to see that you are concerned for your brother. It is hard to say if you and your other siblings can be affected or not. There are many different diseases and different ways they are passed on. Also, even though multiple members of a family can be affected they may have a wide range of presentation. With our family our youngest daughter is the most affected, it is also probable that I myself have mito to a much lesser degree. We also have 3 other children, and my husband, who are not affected at all.

I noticed that you also asked if mito can get worse. Unfortunatly it can. Please don't get to worried yet, though, because some people never get worse. In my case I seemed to get better as I got older. With our daughter she gets new problems all the time, but in reality she is better than she was before the medications. I honestly believe that she would have died if she never got the medications, now she is doing pretty good. It is very hard, sometimes, to look at what can happen with this disease, so please do not think everything you see will happen with your brother. Every person is different with this disease, some are much worse than others. You should know alot more when he has his muscle biopsy.

Best wishes.
