Guest guest
Hi everyone, Our son has a COQ10 deficiency, and I have some questions that I was hoping someone could help with. I was researching this deficiency and I am wondering if this is part of the mito disorder or is the mito disorder itself. Does this indicate complex 1,11,111, 1V or are there other mito disorders that have this deficiency. He uses oxygen full time, bipap at night, has exercise intolerance and heat/cold intolerance along with signs of dysautonomia. I wonder if it is necessary to undergo more testing to find out. We don't want to if it doesn't change anything anyway. What is your experience? In researching, it seems to indicate complex I though I did not think to ask about the specific disorders at his appt. at CCF Tuesday. We are thinking of having our other two children tested for Q10 deficiency as our daughter, Collin's twin, shows exercise intolerance and migraines, and a few mild symptoms. What is the seriousness of this if it is complex I or another complex? We tend to think that he is less severe than he could be, but on the other hand children should not require full time oxygen if it is not serious. We can't come to terms with what we are dealing with, which sometimes makes it harder to deal with than not knowing. Thanks, Joni-mom to Logan 13, 11, and Collin
Guest guest
Co Q10 deficiency is a secondary disorder to Mito. Honestly it can occur with any type of mito, and many metabolic disorders. My daughter is both Carnitine and CoQ10 deficiant and has a non specific mito. It is very hard to pinpoint which disorder a child has without the muscle biopsy. Even with the muscle biopsy many children are positive for mito, but have a non specific type. I assume you saw Dr. Cohen at CCF, this is who my daughter sees. If he reccomends a muscle biopsy, I would do it. He is a very intelligent man, and does not usually overtest, or do procedures unless he sees a true benefit from it. Unfortunatly this specialty is very new and they see new types of this disease all the time. Best wishes. ,Mommy to (9), (7), Bre-Anne (6), Grace (2) and our newest arrival is due Sept. 20thFor the latest baby info, and to see our family check out:www.BabyCountDown.com?baby=4007
