Guest guest
I must agree with many things here but one.The SCD kept me out of the hospital for over a year as my UC kept flaring. I did the SCD strictly and it worked better than my prednisone, remicade and LDN. But after a year things continued to spiral downward and I couldn't get out of bed by October. I never could taper off prednisone and it was making me into a hardcore diabetic. I opted for surgery and am not looking back. No more drugs! I blogged about the whole thing here:a second chance Best of luck to you and thanks to those of you who answered my many questions in the past,> >> > > I'm starting to feel like getting Ulcerative Colitis was the BEST > > > thing to ever happen to me and not the worst like I originally > > > thought. I can't disagree that for some people, surgery becomes necessary. Elaine Gottschall never said any one who needed it was a failure. But I will say that you can prevent further issues with your ostomy by sticking with SCD. Your body doesn't tolerate non-SCD foods. Removing the organ most affected by it will help in the short term. Guest guest
I don't think Ulcerative Colitis is the same thing for everyone. It's like Autism... such a broad range of symptoms that it could be 5, 10, 15, ect. ilnesses all luimped into one diagnosis. For example I just read an article (i'll post it if you want) about a man who was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and YEARS later he was "cured" once he found out he had an allergy to wheat. Scd would have "cured" him from the start, but not everyone diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis has an unknown wheat allergy. -UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: LouisianaSCDLagniappe@...Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2009 20:47:15 -0600Subject: Re: SCD was the only thing that worked until I opted out. Guest guest
"What you eat will help in the long term...". The above saying is very very true, not only for UC , but also for all the gastrointestinal diseases starting from gastritis and GERD. I know it is frustrating at times, but pls do not give up. Guest guest
Is wheat allergy the same as celiac? I think that may happen more than we think (check different Crohn's forums) for changed dx. I was originally dx with Crohns Colitis then Crohn's and I think with the new doctor since he switched the medicine--we are back to CC. I'd like a true test for celiac but no point now... It is a large spectrum of symptoms but by biopsy, blood tests, etc. I think they are pretty well narrowing it down. At least that's what they say. It's kind of hard because everyone knows someone who 'does just fine' so what's up with you? type of thinking. ;-). Debbie 40 cd I don't think Ulcerative Colitis is the same thing for everyone. Guest guest
I think sticking with SCD afterwards is a fantastic idea but if you decide to do it, be careful. A friend of mine was SCD for a long time before she eventually ended up needing surgery (CD). She found that she couldn't do SCD after (even though she wanted to) because she'd end up getting sick constantly. I don't really have more details than that because I'm still getting to know her. I know that she still does stuff like make almond bread but she's just not able to eat completely SCD. I suspect that it has something to do with the change in her digestive system (shortening it?) and that she might be able to go back fully if she focused on more digestible foods but...yeah, I just wanted to suggest starting back from intro again if you decide to stick to SCD just to be careful.
