My mother suffers from this nightly. I do not know of the name of the disorder, but I know restless leg syndrome is one type. For my mother they put her on a mild anti seizure drug, for nightime and it seems to be working well for her. I know she first wondered, at first, how seizure drug would work but within a few days she was sleeping again. I would definatly call your doctor. I know how taking care of 4 kids can be when you cant sleep. (I am in the same boat lately, but I am 32 weeks pregnant its expected.) I have become quite aware of all the wonderful products they have infomercials for, still don't want to buy any. Best wishes.

Krystena,

I have the same prob. I feel so fatigued and like I cannot stay awake but when I lay down my brain won't shut off. I use the exact same phrase. It makes me feel like I'm in a deepest state of relaxation but not asleep. When I try to "wake-up" I'm left feeling very sedated and out of it cognitively. This mostly happens if I try to lay down and take a nap during the day. I just can't go to sleep but my body and mind become very weak like I've been given a sedative. I try to describe to my doc's all the time but they just don't seem to understand. I feel like I can't function and regain my brain power afterwards. It's really awful. I'm sorry you too are experiencing this prob.

Has anyone or their child, ever felt like their brain wouldn't shut down long enough to go to sleep?

This happened to me in 2000 when I had a stroke. and it's been happening to me again for the past 3 days really bad.

I CANNOT sleep. When I do fall asleep, I am awake within 2 hrs at the MOST.. I can remember everything I was thinking in my sleep. It's not exactly like dreaming. It's like you are still awake but not conscious and in your brain/mind I am talking to people or finishing converesations that you had earlier. ( kinda like a dream because I fill in the people's faces that I am talking to ). Just very scary.

The best way I can describe it is by saying it't not shutting down. I think the extra work it's having to do by not sleeping/resting, it's making me dizzy when I am awake. I am uncoordinated and feel like I am not in the world mos of the time. Just super dizzy. Such a horrible feeling. I keep bumping into things. This is very hard with 4 children ( two with mito.) to take care of. My left arm was jerking last night to. My vision has suddenly gotten worse. I have to get new contact scripts about 2x per yr. It happens over night sometimes. I am so scared that I have had another stroke. I have a massive scar on the right side of my brain already and have residual side effects from that on the left side of my body.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Krystena,

You should have called me last night for I was up all night too

with exactly what you speak of. My mind just kept racing. I was hot

and shaky. I even ate some peanuts thinking it may be my sugar and I

was fine for about 1/2 hr. then it started again. I am sure I was

hypotensive. I obvioulsy have no words of wisdom or i wouldn't have

suffered all night. I too have had vision problems and muscle

spasms. I hope you find an answer and then can share it with me!

I have definitely " been there, done that. " And, amazingly, I

think you worded your experience much clearer than my posting

concerning my son a couple weeks ago. I didn't understand quite all

he felt until after your posting as he was more vague in his

details. The super dizziness, the " brain fog being unable to

completely wake up, the eye problems, balance problems causing

bumping into things all the time, muscle spasms, etc. Both Luke and

I have experienced all of them during our stroke episodes. Also,

when I experience these symptoms I also deal with an " inner motor

running " feeling as if there is a constant tiny tremor going on

within the body that just won't go away and an excessive on edge

feeling and jump at every little sound. It is an eary feeling and

scary, especially if you are in a crowd as you feel like you will

fall and get trampled " or something. " You just can't get calmed down

and relaxed and your body just feels out of control or something.

Not sure if I am expressing myself well here or not, but this is

something I have dealt with many times before. Sometimes the

symptoms would be there a day or two and other times it would take

several months to go away.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems lately. One question

I have is if you have been in the heat much lately or been ill or

even extra stressed? I always got worst when dealing with these

issues. The only thing that helped was tons of sleep and time. I

will be praying that you get better soon. Thank you for sharing your

issues with us. It really is helping me to piece together some of

Luke's issues even.

Maybe I will give you a phone call. Get some rest. :)

This happens to my 15 year old. He also has vision that is periodically poor.

A friend who is on the adult mito list says that she has heard from others that

this happens to some people.

Krystena,

What type of mito do you and your children have? My mother had a

stroke-like episode a year and a half ago, and she has trouble sleeping, is

sometimes dizzy and uncoordinated, too. She has MELAS.
