Guest guest
There is something called CFRD, which is CF related diabetes which some kids with CF develop in their teens. Our CF doc told us that if it develops before teens, then it is most likely real juvenile diabetes. Our daughter with juvenile diabetes is adopted, and does not have CF, just to clarify. We found out about the diabetes long after the decision to adopt....everyone at DCS attributed her symptoms to " typical foster kid behavior " (bed wetting, frequent urination, hoarding food and eating three plates of food, wetting her pants, etc...) Anyway, once or twice 's sugar has been a little high, but not near enough to worry about (once it was close to 200) but when Mollie was dx'd with Juvenile diabetes her blood sugar was over 600. huge difference there! we do keep a closer watch on his blood sugar, than the other CF kids, though. We also watch Madison, Mollie's half sister, since the juv. diabetes runs on the mom's side of the family and they share a biological mom. If you are worried, you could also get a monitor and check his sugar sometime right before he eats, like maybe once a month or something. ask the doc what they think is best. take care Jen, mommy of 7, 3 with CF, one with JD > Is it common for CF patients to have diabetes also? Good luck with those numbers- make sure you see a diabetic doctor who knows something about cf... dont get stuck like me! Guest guest
Hi all,Had a troubling situation yesterday and was very fortunate that someone (husband) was with me. I was on my way back from my rheum visit when VERY suddenly I began feeling odd: arms went numb, trouble breathing, couldn't talk or think well, shaky. I took my blood sugar and was ok but then about a couple of minutes later when was getting worse (and after drinking a can of soda that I always keep with me in case) I checked my sugar again and it was dropping rapidly. By the time I got home (30 minutes) and ate ( alot) my sugar had finally increased to 104. So, my sugar can drop VERY rapidly. My activity level was increased yesterday so that could have been the culprit. I will be even more careful in the future.Looks like will go ahead with the AICD/pacemaker in January. Will go back to the same dr as before even though he was arrogant/rude. He is the best qualified (believe me I checked) in this area. He did finally end up responding to my questions through his ARNP who called me. The reason for my decision was that last week had two days of palpitations and mild tachycardia off/on and that was despite taking extra tenormin (slows down heart). Not really wanting to do this but am afraid NOT to now. Anyone with any experience with AICD/pacemakers and what to expect? Thanks so much.Blessings,Becky Have a burning question? Go to Yahoo! Guest guest
Becky, I am sorry to hear of your situation with low blood sugar and your heart condition. I know it can be very frightening to say the least. I want you to know that you continue to be in my prayers, truly you are. Personal regards and concern, > > Hi all, > Had a troubling situation yesterday and was very fortunate that someone (husband) was with me.
