Guest guest
OK everyone..I'm back again.. I think it was partially my fault I got so sick.. but I was just so sure my upchucking was because of something I was doing wrong, I blew it off. The ER gave me a liter of saline to rehydrate me, phenergan for my " nausea " (boy did THAT make me stoned.. was the room supposed to spin..?), & pepcid for the terrible heartburn. Then they did a set of x-rays to try an make sure there was no staple line disruption or obstruction. I got sent home with scripts for a new antibiotic (seems I did have a UTI) and phenergan. We (poor hubby & I) came home & went to sleep- first on the couch, then to bed! I staggered to the bathroom a time or two, but I slept for like, 12 hours after we were released. I still feel very fuzzy.. I was diagnosed with viral gastritis, mild dehydration, & a urinary tract infection. Got a nice little doc.. he actually looked over the info I brought with me.. said he wanted to read it, but he was hopping, so he never got to do much more than scan it. On the bright side, the only pain left is in my sore back.. I sent my hubby to get liquid tylenol to take for the back pain.. its not severe enough to take vicodin for. Anyway, I'm home.. I'm sort of awake.. and back on clear liquids until I feel comfy advancing. Dole makes some great no sugar added juice pops, yanno..? Thanks everyone who sent good wishes & sweet notes.. they were much appreciated! Hugs, Liane

Guest guest
Liane, Glad you're feeling better!! I'm sorry you had to goto the ER, but at least you know what's wrong now! What's viral gastritis btw ? The UTI seems to be pretty common for some reason, but I don't know why, is it the same reason a lot of people get thrush/yeast infections ? All the antibiotics ?? Sorry, don't mean to quiz you, you can wait until you feel better to answer! *grins* Glad you're feeling better!! *hugs* Anita Pre-pre-op in Denver > OK everyone..I'm back again.. > I think it was partially my fault I got so sick.. but I was just so > sure my upchucking was because of something I was doing wrong, I blew > it off. Guest guest
Liane, So glad you went to the ER to get checked out and that you are on the road to feeling better now. Hope you feel good enough to get to progress in your intake to soft foods soon to get that protein you want and need. I'm also happy for you that you didn't end up dealing with the flooding issues to get to the medical facility. Will be thinking of you. Take care. Guest guest
Anita- Gastritis is a catchall phrase for an irritated stomache lining.. calling it viral gastritis is a catchall phrase meaning, " patient is throwing up & we aren't sure why. " I'm pretty sure that the UTI came from a combination of things... (TMI WARNING!!) the urinary catheter predisposes us to an infection, plus unless we're put on iv fluids to flush out our kidneys, we don't pee worth a darn until we can get the fluid intake back up. Add to that the problem of.. personal hygeine.. being a very difficult task using tongs & babywipes... and not being allowed to shower for 3 days while hospitalized. If I coulda peed enough, I doubt this would have happened.. but live & learn, yanno? Also.. if you don't want thrush, take acidophilus ASAP postop.. and eat live culture yogurt. I've had everything else.. but thrush wasn't a problem, lol! Hope I got all your questions, Liane > > OK everyone..I'm back again.. > > I think it was partially my fault I got so sick.. but I was just so > > sure my upchucking was because of something I was doing wrong, I > blew > > it off. Guest guest
Hi Liane, I'm so glad that you went to the ER and got checked out!! I'm happier still that you know now what was wrong, and you have some meds for it. I guess the "not knowing" has to be really scary, huh? Anyway, I'm glad that you're feeling better!!
