I have heard that many children do benefit from Carnitor with constipation. For my daughter it helped her more that anyone ever imagined. She was opposite, though, and had severe chronic diarrhea. The carnitor helped her break her food down better, therefore making her BM's more normal. I would consult with your doctor about this. Carnitor is a prescription, and really needs to be followed by a doctor who can make sure he is getting the right dose. Our mito doc checks blood levels, (Grace is actually carnitine deficient) to make sure she is getting the proper dose. Also if your son is actually carnitine deficient, the over the counter forms are not recommended.

Hi all again,

Just wondering if L-Carnitine/Carnitor has helped with constipation?

My son has delayed gastric emptying, constipation and pain in his

stomach when he eats and drinks fluids. He is on Mira Lax and it

appears to be helping, however, my understanding is L-Carnitine is a

natural substance and I would like to give it a try if it can be

helpful for him.

Also, does anyone know of any literature/websites that talks about

Carnitine helping with constipation? I think that might be more

helpful to have something in writing when/if I approach my son's gastro

doctor on this issue. (He appears to be open to these kinds of things

as he has asked me for information on CoQ10--which I will give to him

regarding it and mito).

Thanks for your insights,

Shirley, mom to and Jordan
